All of them? All 2 of them? One of which being the sequel to the other?

I'm going to say you should go with Rainbow Six: Vegas. It's really a great game.

Depends on what type of shooter you look for. The R6V games were pretty good and relatively tactical(ish), but if you're looking for the "best" shooter it wouldn't be my top recommendation (or even in the top 5 or so).

If you've not played 'em I'd look at these first:

Call of Duty 4
Modern Warfare 2
Bad Company 2
Killzone 2
The Orange Box

And if you can handle third person shooters:
Uncharted & Uncharted 2
Resident Evil 5

I agree with this if he's looking to play multiplayer, but I think R6:Vegas is a better single player game than Call of Duty 4 or MW2. I haven't played BC:2 singleplayer (does it have single player?), Killzone 2 at all or the Halflife 2 parts of The Orange Box, so I can't compare. CoD4 and MW2 both had a couple of single-player missions I really enjoyed, but overall I like the R6:V style for single player.

I assumed since he said he had played earlier R6 games that he knows what they're like and that's what interests him. I haven't actually played the earlier R6 games though, so I don't know how they compare.

Earlier R6 games are not at all like R6V. They were VERY tactical down to pre-mission planning and such. R6V is one step above an arcade shooter, all you can do is tell your teammates where to go and stack up, that's about it.

BC2 had a SP game but it wasn't terribly great. I think CoD 4's SP is alot better than R6V's, MW2's is about as good.

Lets just say this, if you're going to play MP you'll get ALOT more value out of the CoD games, verses MP on R6V/2 is pretty stale, Terrorist Hunt is fun for a while but loses it's luster after you play the same map 25 times.

I don't see how people liked R6:V... I tried to play it and it was/is god fucking awful. All I did was get through the first mission (in Mexico) before putting it away in sheer disgust. It's by far the ugliest 360 game I've played, to the point of distracting. The voice acting is so bad you go from laughing at it to cringing in no time.

I would hope the 2nd one is better, so if you get anything I'd suggest the 2nd one. I wouldn't touch it with a 50 foot pole personally, but there ya go.

R6: 3 (Xbox) was the first R6 game to go from super tactical, no real main character, "realistic" (for its time) to full out run and gun FPS. It was a great multiplayer experience for console users, but stale otherwise. R6: Vegas was not a very good game. I wouldn't recommend either in that series.

I think the best console shooters so far are Orange Box, CoD series (excluding 3 and 5), and BC2. If you're into multiplayer, CoD:MW2 and BC2 are going to the your best bets for finding games, next in line would be Orange Box for TF2 (which is another amazing game, even the update free console edition).

I wish they would at least mimick the last great Rainbow Six; RavenShield; but no, they gotta go the arcade-way. Thanks, Ubisoft.

That is what sells now. People don't want to plan, they want to run and gun. Strategy? Ha! I've got an RPG.

It's hardly run and gun though. That's why I prefer the single-player of R6:V over CoD - R6:V at least forces you to take cover.

GRAW 2 is a very good game on consoles. It's a third person shooter, but the way they designed it works very well. It's far more tactical than any other shooter I've played recently. You can't just run around and kill people; someone is always waiting somewhere for you to pop yourself out in the open so they can pop your head off. I don't know how many people play it, and the single player was very very stale (they didn't even attempt a real plot; terrorists are attacking, go kill them pretty much sums it up), so it might not be worth it to purchase it at this point.

The PC version is a completely different game. It's an FPS which makes it even more tactical because you can't see what's going on around you as well as you can in the third person view. If you even move somewhere out of cover in the PC version, you're dead in most cases.

Don't bother with MoH. The PS3 beta is being butchered by reviewers and the Xbox 360 version is more than 3 weeks late. With that going for it the final product is most likely going to be garbage.

Bulletstorm might be good, I don't know enough about it.

Mexico was the worst part of the game. You missed out by not playing further.

Rainbow6 vegas 1 and 2 are excellent games. Don't listen to these guys. I still enjoy playing R6v2 with freinds.

You and the 4 others in the world...

82 and 88 on Metacritic are good enough for me. I'll grant that Vegas came out only 1 year after the 360, so its score benefited from it being an early release (you don't need to bring up Perfect Dark Zero). Vegas 2 came out a year and a half later, so I think it deserves its 82.

Like I said above - it's not a game I'd pick if I wanted to play multiplayer, but it's a great single player game (probably co-op too).

Vegas and GRAW are both great series, but the first game in each series was superior IMO. The sequels were a wee bit more technically refined, but for all intents and purposes, they were basically game-length expansion packs. And they felt like a b-reel of levels in both cases - the levels were much more interesting and fun in each of the first games.

It just takes a while to get used to them after coming off call of duty, since theyre very different experiences, especially GRAW, but theyre excellent in their own way.

*shrugs* First impressions are everything, and I have far too many games to play to spend time hoping a game will get better when it starts off so bad.

The R6 games are very good and I thought the graphics were fine. Plus, they have multiple co-op modes, all of which were very enjoyable. I'd easily recommend these games, especially to anyone looking for co-op.

Get Rainbow Six Vegas 2, it is definitely worth playing. Best split screen action I've ever had, one of my favorite shooters of all time. Co-op campaign is hard to find these days.
