I'm thinking of making a trip to Australia (Melbourne) from Boston later this year. I looked at expedia.com and qantas's website, and prices are around $2400-$2500. Are prices to Australia from the US east coast usually this high? Any other sites I can look at to get cheaper fares?

My company is talking about relocating me there next year if I desire to make the move from Calgary, AB. I'm weighing the pros and the cons right now. No decision has to be made until next year though, so I got lots of time to think about it.

you need to choose a season based on prices and weather. i just got back from kenya last week and tickets were $1800 round trip during the peak season. unfortunately the off seasons in kenya are the rainy seasons and travel can be very difficult and sometimes impossible that time of year.

according to this site:

"Round-trip prices from L.A. to Sydney average around US$1,500 during the peak season (October to February, summer in the southern hemisphere). But if you travel during Australia?s winter and early spring (June through September), you can save as much as US$800."

sounds like the offseason might be the better option in australia.

here are the current qantas deals, starting at $750 from san fran

Aussie: You call that a knife? THIS is a knife!
Bart: That's not a knife, that's a spoon.
Aussie: All right, all right, you win.. heh. I see you've played Knifey-Spooney before.

sorry just remembered that. :p
