Howdy,
Just want to throw this out to see what type of responses that I?ll get to it.
I am in need of some pretty major dental work that I need done and I cannot afford to get it done in the good old US of A.
Went to a dentist (free evaluation) I live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida after 5 or 6 x-rays I was told that it would cost $9600.00 to have cavities filled and a three missing teeth implanted back in my head?.
I could feel my blood pressure starting to go up due to the cost of all the work I have done.
I have known for quite a while that the dental work needs to be done but couldn?t afford it.
I have a co-worker from Bogotá, Colombia we were talking at lunch he mentioned that all the work could be done for quite a bit less (considerably less) if I was willing to fly down to Bogotá to have the work done.
I am more that willing to fly three hours and spend a couple of weeks or how ever long it will take to get my teeth fixed not being vain just would like to have a ?perfect smile?.
I should be finding out with in the next week or so how much it will be costing me.
My questions is has anyone in the forum ever gone out of the country to have dental work done and if so are you satisfied with the results?
Is there anything that I should know in advance before doing this?
By the way I have about six weeks of vacation time built up never take vacations and never take time off from work.
I am aware of the rebel hostage taking that goes on in Bogotá, Colombia it will be a safe trip for me as my co-worker is Colombian and was born and raised and lived there for some thirty some odd years.
I have my passport ready and plan on going the first week of August and staying two/three weeks or until the work is done.
Will have a free place to stay only have to pay for food and entertainment (would imagine that all the dental work going on in head there won?t bee much time for sight seeing or doing the tourist routine).
Thanks and hope to hear some feed back from people who have done a similar something similar.

I saw something on this on 60 minutes. Apparently these things are legit. But why go to Columbia? There are options to go to Thailand and India. In India, they even let you stay on the beach and stuff.

You know if you have dental work done in Columbia the teeth are actually made of cocaine and belong to one of the major cartels. Once you get back to the USA somebody is going to show up at your door some night to take back their property.

I saw a show on people getting cheap plastic surgery down in south america, which I have to say is a continent devoid of anything good except coffee.

But back on point, if you go down there and something bad happens with the dental work you are screwed, sh*t out of luck. What legal recourse do you have? In Florida if somebody screws up it's their ass on the line, but in colombia nobody will care.

Did a little search. In the 60 minutes thing, they went to the hospitals and stuff. The hospitals have the same equipment as many advanced US hospitals. If you a really interested, you might wanna check out links like this . I would be a little weary of South American hospitals though...

It was "Faces of Death 3" and they were doing sex change operations with a spoon and hacksaw.

Hmm, I was recently in Colombia but did not have any dental work done. As fun as it was (and it was VERY fun) I would not trust them (or the British) to do any dental work on me. Good luck man

Hi,
I'm a Colombian guy and getting surgery done outside of the US is a very common thing do to the ridiculous prices charged for every darn thing here in the US.

If you are being coached by someone, you'll be OK. Afterall, you are going to the Capital, things you hear about rebels happens in other regions of the country.
Also, I know south american countries are 3rd world countries, but some of them are well developed. As long as you are going to a professional dental center in a luxurious suite you shouldn't worry about anything (Don't you dare go to a small place on a corner somewhere)

Colombia is not so bad anymore, it isn't worse that newark, chicago, trenton, philadelphia.
And as far as technology is concerned, we are not that far behind (some people like to exagerate things a little) We are a country of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Juanes, Shakira, Juan Pablo Montoya, Manuel Elquin Patarrollo, Sofia Vergara, Juan Valdez and many beautiful women!

Let me give you an idea.
For a root canal and a crown here in the US, you'd be charged anywhere from $1,500 to $2,000.
With that money, I can go to Colombia, round trip, live like a king for a month, and have the same job done and be back with enough money to to to a casino.
You do the math!

Comeon, everyone knows they don't use hacksaws or spoons. They use 30 year old meat slicers and cocktail forks. ;)

I thought that a lot of folks were going to Mexico for orthodontia and dental work because it is cheaper?

my question is if a colombian denstist majorly screws up and paralyzes your face or leaves you with an infection that forces you to have your jaw removed, is bogota the capital of Colombia?

Wow, I can tell you go there a lot

It's a lot prettier than ANYWHERE in the US, for one thing...

Anyway, I'd suggest either going to Mexico (it's a lot closer, and should be almost as cheap...if you include airfare, it probably WILL be as cheap), or Ecuador (pretty much the same as Colombia, except the chances of getting kidnapped are MUCH lower...you'll actually be able to take advantage of the situation and travel a bit while you're there).

What does the first part of the question have to do at all with the last part of the question?

Bogota is ALWAYS the capital of colombia. Weather or not a Dentist screws up has no impact upon which city in Colombia is the capital.

UNCjigga ... I will buy you a case of beer for you if you can get his ransom down to 10% of initial asking price!

first, you don't need to write in bold. we can read your text just fine without the crazy emphasis -- in fact, reading stuff that doesn't appear standardized (like a normal font) is more difficult for the average human eye/brain.

second, you don't have to make your title and subject identical. we already see your intended subject, and that's enough.

third, the way you wrote your inquiry really appeared as if you're scamming people (hence the nigerian responses). again, avoid the bold and repetitive title/subject field and you may be well on your way to gaining more respect around here.

It may be cheaper, but I wouldn't trust having such a big operation done on me in a country I'm not really familiar with.

The only countries outside of the United States I would get medical operations in would probably be Canada, Australia and some Western European countries.
