I really don't use my desktop much at all anymore. Especially since I just got a new super comfortable living room set. The PC is upstairs in a room by itself and I never feel like sitting up there, when the gf and tv are downstairs.

Would a Dell 9300 be an okay replacement for a dektop? Would gaming be noticeably worse?

I'm thinking of going to a laptop only; or maybe get a cheaper laptop to do basic office apps and surf downatirs, and then keep a gaming desktop upstairs. Comments?

What was your previous desktop? that will dictate if the 9300 will be noticeably worse.

Right now it's a 2.4GHz P4 and a 9800Pro. I wanted to get a new one, but I haven't been that interested in gaming lately. I'd like to find a decent game or two though.

Well, the 9300 will definately not be as good as that rig, but if you're content with not playing Doom3 on the best video settings you should be alright. An x300 isn't that quick though. If you really want to get into laptop gaming you're going to be paying a lot more than the $1100 the Dell 9300 goes for.

I'd say you'd be better off buying a crappy Dell 2200 or something cheap and use that for your normal computing and then keep your desktop for gaming. Plus, then you have two computers.

We already have two desktops. It's either get a basic laptop, and toss my gf's desktop; or get a good laptop and get rid of both desktops.
