Thinking of getting PSP 3000/Go for retro gaming

I'm dying for some retro PS One gaming from the 90's - preferably in a portable form so I'm thinking about getting a PSP. I want to play some titles that I don't see listed on the Sony PS store website.

I'm completely naive about PSP so I'm wondering, do ports exist for some/all of these games for the PSP? If so, is it easy to get 3rd party ports onto the system? Should I get a PSP 3000 or PSP Go? I'm partial to the form factor of the Go but I'm not sure its worth the extra $$$. Who has the best price on a PSP Go/3000? Any advice is appreciated.

Games I want to play:

Tenchu: Stealth Assassins
Bushido Blade
Rival Schools
Kagero

Thanks.

As far as I know the Go does not have the community support or any easy way to hack it, so emulators and hacked stuff is much easier and quicker to find on the full PSPs.

Do not buy the PSP Go if you want cheap games because it's download only, so you can't play discs. PSP 3K is the way to go.

CFW on a PSP go is just as easy as on a 3000

I went a little further and got the go and a dock to play on the TV 🙂

Don't bother with a go, pick up a 3k. The only time to pick up a Go is when you see one at Sears/ Sams Club for $50 new.

PSP Gos are hackable with CFW, I know because I had one.

Go for a PSP 3000 though. While the form factor is nice, but if you ever want to dabble into actual PSP games, you're locked into Sony's overpriced store.

You mean there is no way to get games onto the Go through the PC?

You can easily install CFW on the Go. With CFW installed, you can rip and convert about any PS1 game to play on the PSP. I tend to prefer buying them from the PSN store, as the ripped games might run into bugs. And, yes, while the Go doesn't have a UMD drive, there are many PSP games you can buy on the PSN store.

I got my PSP Go for $90 used at Gamestop (excellent condition). Considering the PSP 1000-3000 were selling for around $60-70 used online, and a 16Gb card might cost an additional $15-30, I figured the Go was worth it. I didn't need a UMD drive, and I prefer the form factor of it.

Get a 3000.

If 3000 didn't have video out, I wouldn't even bother. PSP stuff has been what a lot of my YT videos have been consisting of lately.

I'm kind of trying to keep an eye out for a 3000 with a broken screen, but otherwise fully functional. $20-$30. Then replace the screen myself for dirt cheap.

Have been trying to sell my 1000 forever now. Had it here in the store up front in the display case. Very good/excellent condition. CIB. Easily worth $100.
Came in few weeks ago & noticed something missing. Seems it got stolen. The HDD in the DVR was dead & not recording. And if it wasn't a random walk-in, I know exactly who it was. 😡

I have the God of War PSP 3000 and couldn't be happier with it. I have about 15 PSP games that are all basically retro titles except for Third Birthday.

Final Fantasy 1 and 2
Final Fantasy 4 Complete Collection
Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions
Persona 1
Persona 2
Y's Chronicles
Y's 7
Y's: The Oath in Felghana

and more

Digitally there are great titles like Corpse Party which is as retro as it gets. Think the Japanese version of The Grudge meets Final Fantasy.

Then there are the PS1 games that look really crisp on the PSP. Despite having a 3DS and DSLite I prefer the PSP. Cannot wait until after the Wii U comes out so I can justify purchasing a Vita.

This is exactly why I still have my PSP 3000. Solely for retro gaming. Makes for a great bathroom companion. Just finished taking a shit while playing Sonic 2. 😀

Well I found a good price for a PSP Go so I got it.
Playing Final Fantasy VII, Bushido Blade, Kagero Deception II with CFW ... great fun!

Retro gaming is becoming quite popular these days. I wonder why that is...

EA/Activision take note: we are tired of your shit.

I took it further with a Sony PVM CRT RGB monitor with SCART/RGB cables for all my 16 bit consoles. It's epic.

That alone is worth me getting a PSP soon... and it's like $19 new. As soon as I can get off Ebay and stop buying complete in box SNES carts...
