thinking of getting an intel motherboard...

I saw one at my local hardware store that I want to buy. It takes the smaller new pentium chips and RDRAM... Does anyone have a recommendation against Intel motherboards specifically? I was thinking and going to get the exact motherboard model numbers and post it on here. Please let me know...

I know that the older Intel p2 and p3's mobo's were very stable. They really weren't made for overclocking though.
 
go get the specs then post them or do a search and see the benchmarks.....you will probably see why its better to get amd.....lower cost....works just as good or better......it depends what your going to do with your system.?? let that be your deciding factor
 
If stability is what you after, an Intel motherboard will not disappoint you.

The BIOS will be VERY limited though, with very few options. But, everything will work, including Sound Blaster Live's 😉

if you are going Pentium 4, make sure its the Socket 478 version; so you'll have a future upgrade path

Pentium 3, you need to get the "B" stepping of the Intel 815, which is also known as the Intel 815EP chipset (no onboard video, 4 USB ports, support for Tulatin CPU's, etc..)

These boards also come with or without onboard audio & lan. There will be an "L" in the model for the lan model

looks like a very stable all though more expensive board then amd.........question....do you have a system now....and what is it???
 
as far as doing with the system... this was just for graphics work / programming ... testing games, etc. I know quite a bit about overclocking (as far as celerons went)... but I think I've had my fill of it...

so... pretty intensive graphic testing in some cases... and sure, everyone needs to write papers for school etc 🙂

just saw your reply, panhead, but I can't edit my posts (!!)... my current system is an Abit BX6 rev.2... celeron 366 overclocked permanently to 550... 512MB ram... hard drives... I have no REAL complaints... and now that I'm replying I might not even need an upgrade. hmm....

I have a Hercules TNT 1. heh... that thing can kick (still!)
