Thinking of getting a new LED TV. Suggestions?

Guys,

I am thinking of getting a new LED TV (really thin) that is either 60" or 55". I am a huge Sony fan but will consider Samsung as well.

I am not gung-ho on 3D but if it is capable of 3D, why not?

Right now, I have the Sony KDF-60XS955 60-Inch rear-projection TV. It was a really good TV when I got it in 2004. I think it is time to upgrade now though.

What do you think my Sony is worth? I want to try and sell it on Craigslist. The TV is in perfect condition.

Regarding the one I want to buy, I am torn between the Sony BRAVIA and the Samsung 8000-9000 series LED TVs.

What do you guys suggest?

Please tell me the best 65", 60", 55" LED TVs out right now. Price is not an issue.

Thanks.

I would like to know why not to choose plasma. It seems that low end panasonics $700-900 outperform the best LCD's in a typical house (light leakage from outside windows).

Does anyone have input here? I've got htpc - do not like 120mhz mode. True 24hz would be cool but not if it does that stupid frame 120mhz mode dealio

Curious on why not a plasma as well, is it just because you want a thin TV? forgoing performance for looks?

Well, LED TVs I've heard run much cooler than Plasma. And Plasma TVs are older technology than LEDs aren't they? I'm not talking about LCD TVs.

The latest LED TVs from Sony and Samsung are 3D capable and are extremely nice. Just not sure which one to get.

Plasmas use about 40% more electricity than an LED, so they do run hotter.

There are still a few advantages that plasma has over an LED tv, not the least of which is price. If it's not an option, then I won't whip out the list.

"LED TVs" are LCDs. They just use an LED backlight instead of the traditional florescent backlight. The new LED LCDs also do not do 3D well due to their low refresh rate. Panasonic and Samsung plasmas do 3D MUCH better.

use google, only rgb led is inherently superior. the rest is marketing. some of the best high color gamut monitors don't use led. white led is not superior for color.

Uh, sure if you only read the plasma nuts. That said, the price difference between local-dimming LCD and plasma is pretty big, so if the lighting is right and heat/power draw isn't an issue...

You can turn off frame interpolation on every 120hz set I know. That will preserve 5:5 anyway.

i don't understand when people use the argument that "plasma is old tech" as a knock against it. "I don't want it because it's old tech." Ok....

explain.

you will see more detail from a $650 panasonic (EPP deal) 1080p than from an equivalent deal LCD. If i want i can turn the up brightness so the blacks are gray and see the same detail from my 1080p westy 42" - but that looks horrible. So without this detail - that is present on the most basic panasonic plasma - i feel robbed - like my 1080p LCD is really 720p because it can't render the dark scene details (matrix revolutions).

I assume LED = full LED - not sidelit led - which is far more expensive than a $650 panny plasma deal yeah? have full LED lcd's come down alot in price? $999 for a 50"?

I'm asking to know - I now see the weakness in the old westy 42" which has served me well so far. Don't want to make the same mistake again. I want to see it all.

I don't need any bells and whistles since i use a receiver and a htpc .

The biggest scare is the rumour that plasma's make noise - i can hear flyback's from monitors and it is piercing to me - that would kill my wood for sure.

My gut feeling is that the information here is good, but I'm not quite sure. Is that English?
