Thinking of getting a 360? Recommendations on type and where to get one?

I'm not a hard care gamer but with all the buzz around sf4 I figure now might be the time 🙂 Any suggestions on which one to get in terms of lower prob. that I would get the RROD?

And also is it safe to pick one off of ebay or craigslist? Too bad I missed the days of the 25% cashback 🙁

I was just about to mention Dell.

But SF4 on the 360? I hated the D-pad so much that I was more used to using the analog stick for pulling off moves.

If you don't need the component cables I would pickup an Arcade (best bet to get a Jasper model right now), and then the 60GB starter pack (includes 3 months of Live).

I just went through the same thing...got the xbox because i wanted sf4. Debated on the arcade vs the pro. I'd say if you don't need the component cables or headset...get the arcade. I ended up just getting the pro from Dell. Looks like the newer arcades are Jaspers...though some of the reviews for the pro version on the dell site said they were getting Jaspers also. I think the 20% off coupon expires March 3rd or 4th.

I say go through a local retail store, like Wal-mart. When it RRoD on you, no waiting you just go in, and trade it out for a new one. They also have extended warranties.. I'm covered for 3 years with my Wal-Mart one.

360 arcade, then buy the 60GB starter pack. that way, you are guaranteed a jasper (latest revision of 360 - has 65nm gpu and cpu).

Cheaper even after having to buy a different stick or pad.

Yep, I did that with Target, and used 10 percent off too. 3yrs no worries or shipping charges. The warranty was only $17 that way too.

So with a Wal-Mart or Target warranty you can just go in and trade the console if it gets the RRoD?

I got the Pro from dell because it came with 3 free games. I ended up not using the component cable (bought an HDMI from monoprice), but have used the headset. I think mine was a late model falcon.

Thanks for the replies ... guess what I'm losing are the games if I go the arcade+starter pack route? The main thing I'm worrried about is the RRod so hopefully I land a jaspers and those more reliable.

The Target warranty is no better than MS in that respect, you still have to ship it off, and they pay everything, just like MS. Where is differs is it covers any failure, not just RRoD for 3yrs, and they can resolve the issue in multiple ways.

In the case of 1 person I know that used the warranty, with-in a week of shipping it off, they issued a Target gift card for the full purchase price including warranty cost. At which point, the warranty is fulfilled and you will have to purchase another with the next 360, should you choose to spend the GC that way.

As a casual gamer, you'll get more outta a PS3. $250 if you apply for the Sony CC if you qualify. Circuit City had the core system for cheap during their liquidation sale too. But hey, it's your money, if you wanna go w/ a 360, enjoy.

Why would you get more out of a PS3 as a casual gamer?

Disregard. He is a Sony rep.

Arcade has HDMI?

Yes. Has had it since Fall 2006 before it was renamed from Core to Arcade. It has had HDMI the entire time it has been called Arcade.

Does the Arcade come with RCA/composite cables? Been going back and forth on whether or not to pick one up for PlayOn access in the bedroom, since I already have a PS3 in the living room. And I could always bring it out to the living room if I pick up any exclusive games for it.

Yes, it comes with the composite cables.

Worrying so much about Jasper vs Falcon is pointless. Both are much better than the launch systems, and there is a 3-year warranty against RRoD. If you want a Pro, get a Pro instead of jumping through hoops.

To be honest there is no real proof that the Jasper will be less likely to RROD either and it is still too early to tell. My suggestion is get the Arcade and then get either the 60 or the 120 hard drive and install the games you want to play on the hard drive. That will keep the heat and noise down.

Not with Wal-Mart. You buy it there, you return it there, you walk out the same day with a new Xbox. I don't know about Targets warrenty, but Wal Mart exchanges you the system because it is their extended warrenty, not MS.
