Thinking of dropping Cox DVR for TiVo

So I just realized that between the DVR fee, the digital gateway fee, and the "digital conversion - DVR" fee, I am paying over $20 a month for our Cox.net DVR. I really love this DVR because it has two tuners so we can record two shows and watch a recorded one or record 1 show and watch another live. But tivo costs only $13 a month.

Does it work as well? Are there any other alternatives? Are there any forums dedicated to this type of thing? Thanks!

Yeah after some searching and reading, the recording capabilities just aren't comparable to our current DVR. I'll stick with it for now.

I have the same setup. Are you sure all of those fees are just for the DVR?

I only pay $15 a month for my Cox DVR of which $10 worth is for the HD package.

I'm in the Omaha market FWIW.

i think some of the extra fees are because you have to upgrade to the digital package in order to get the dvr?

i love my cox dvr too. and after using my buddy's tivo for several months before, dual tuners is DEFINITELY a must have

seconded.... i pay 15 total a month for mine (including the rental fee). Its also nice that my dvr is a HDTV dvr as well. No other dvr out there is as cheap when you go HD.

If you buy a tivo you still have to buy the actual box before you get to pay for the service. If your cox dvr breaks its no big deal just take it back and get it replaced. If you buy a tivo and it breaks you are pretty much screwed (trying to get tivo to warranty it/buy a new box).

If you guys were smart you'd get DirecTV and get the DirecTV TiVo's... they have Dual tuners and can be hacked to allow for multi room viewing, digital video extraction, and Home Media Options... all of which I find is fairly easy to do with a step by step instruction guide that is on the internet.

Even if comcast provides HD content, I'm sure it still looks like pure sh!t (I hate cable companies)...

DirecTV has an HD TiVo as well, but I'm not sure you can hack those ones...

You sir are cofused... directv is the one mucking up HD. http://www.widemovies.com/dfwbitrate.html

Directv is the worst provider out there right now in the HD dept.

Im very curious to see how their whole change plays out with the HD picture quality with their new satalite and switching to MPEG4 encoding.

I use Beyond TV (computer based). I just paid for my tv tuner card and the software - everything from there on is free.
