Any suggestions? Skills needed? Do you know of a reputable company that may be hiring for at home positions?

what is this data entry thing?

Sorry for being so ignorant, just never heard of this before.

Can you make a living doing this? From home no less? Sounds like something I should be looking into.

Im looking into it but I see alot of scams. I heard if you get in with a good company you can make some good money. From what I understand they send you papers and you enter it into the computer and send it back to them. Something I can handle but I was hoping for some input from others here that may be doing it si I can see how to go about it without being taken.

Thats cool. I can either run him over with my chair or get my granny cane out made of all metal, 4 feet on the bottom, and ram it up the backside feet first with NO lube

Do those data base entry from home things work? I always thought they were scams? My aunt tried stuffing envelopes a long time ago and she quit after about a month or so. she had to fold like a gazillion of them every week just to make a little bit of money. If it does work I actually wouldn't mind doing it if it would allow me to only spend an hour or two a night. Wouldn't mind the extra money if it paid at least decent money

Most of them are scams... they want you to buy $200 worth of software or books to "learn" how to do it, then you're on your own to find clients.

There was an article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution jobs section about people doing call center work from home. They were basically contractors working for companies like Home Depot.

I think the easiest way to do it would be to contract your services out to companies instead of signing up for one of those scams. I imagine it is tough to get into though. We've been trying to find out how to setup a call center from home for my wife without much success.

One of my friends did an internship with a company who provided data entry services - he and a few others wrote the software these (mostly stay-at-home moms) people used. I got the impression that he didn't feel too good about the compensation the data entry people received; it was per form, IIRC, and it came out to a very low wage each hour.

I do data entry during the day. It is the most boring job I have had. It probably would be more fun at home when I could have the television or music playing though.

I didn't say that because it was from home, I said that because it's data entry.

I'm resurrecting this thread rather than starting a new one. I've been considering a home in your area funboy, a friend and I are eyeballing one in particular. We've thought about actually making our way over to TN to check it out in person, and get a feel for the area, what's available etc.

The houses are very affordable yes, but we're both young so we don't have the cushion of retirement money or whatever you may have. We could probably get financing pretty easily, and the monthly payments are very low, but we've been wondering what the hell we'd do for income if we actually moved down there. I mean it is Butthole, Tennessee. I'm sure the job market there is very limited.

So yeah, I was actually lookin for a "work at home" type job myself when I came across outsourced data entry. I'm having a tough time finding anything other than scams as well though. If you do any sort of search on Google you get flooded with "get rich quick" bullsh!t, I'm not lookin to get rich, I just wanna be able to pay bills every month. There do seem to be some legit companies out there that do it though, like DPI. It'd be nice if there was some sort of organization that could link up freelancers with various companies for temp work.

This is the best I was able to find from Monster, lmao a fvcking phone sex hotline.

Just out of curiousity, do you hold a job up in TN? Or are you able to live off of disability or something (if you get it I mean)? There's a Wal-Mart like 11 miles away from the home we're looking at, but I really don't wanna work at Wal-Mart for the rest of my life. What other retail chains etc. are up in that area, Blockbuster/Movie Gallery etc.? Just somethin a couple of kids could do part time to pay for food/utilities.

I came across this too, maybe you've already seen it. It's a horribly laid out pos, but "Part I" sounds exactly like what we're looking for. No way in hell I'm gonna drop $50 on that though, anytime I see any sort of fee I initially think scam, but maybe a bunch of us can pool in like $5 or so and get one person in to see the list and whether it's legit or not.
