thinking of ditching my 6800 ultras...

hey guys,
i've been looking at upgrading for quite a while now, and i think i might be ready to bite the bullet. i'm thinking of selling my current 6800ultra's. firstly, i'm not quite sure as to what i could get for them. looking at the new at article gave me some hope of getting something out of them linky but i am hoping to get what... say 300 a piece? any opinions as to whether i could get more for them? evga 6800ultra 256, stock speeds. then i go to the cards i would upgrade to, and i'm thinking either a pair of 7800gt co's or 7800gtx ko editions depending on how much i can get for my 6800 ultras. also, i'm assuming that for either of the cards i would be (of the 7800's) a 500 watt power supply would be okay, or is it time to upgrade that as well. any help would be appreciated!

I'm guessing you can probably sell them for around 250... problem is, people can buy a 7800GT for 280, and have an advantage over the ultra.

Otherwise, I'm assuming that the 500w should be plenty to hold the 7800GT SLi.

check how many amp there is on the 12v rail!....it's as important if not greater than the watts stated

which brand of psu r u using??

it's a good way to go but it really depends on how many amp you got on the 12v rail

If he can run 6800 Ultras SLI then he can definitely run 7800GT's they use less power....

this is where SLI doesnt shine so well

its awesome at the time, you have 2 x the power of other people, and many times the power of average joe, but then you come to upgrade and it gets a bit tricky

anyway i have 2 xfx 7800GT OC's here and im loving it loads. definately a good choice if your going to go SLI again. cheaper than 2 GTX's, 90% of the time just as fast, but much faster than a single GTX

In that article it shows the 6800U selling for 275$ at MonarchComputers. And people are not buying those cards anymore due to next generation coutnerparts. So I think you'd get 200-250$ max for each.
Honestly, I don't think you should upgrade now. Your cards should handle any modern game out there at an ouststanding resolution (especially that they're OCed). It's not worth the trouble of selling/buying/dealing with buyers etc.. I would wait for the next generation at least.

thanks guys, i think that i might just hold off until the next gen, and be happy with what i have now, considering i had been hoping to get a bit higher for my cards. anyways, thanks for the input guys! and if anyone might be able to swing me towards the upgrade path, thats always appreciated 😉

OP your cpu will be a big bottleneck for sli'ed 7800gts. I say sell each ultra for $300 or do some sli deal for $650 and sell your mobo. Then take $270-280 out for a gt and use the rest to upgrade to a s939 optereon which are goin pretty cheap lately and OC like crazy, get s939 sli mobo for same price you sold your other mobo. You may even be able to find one supporting ddr2. Then bam! there yah go a whole system upgrade without losing any money, maybe a couple bucks over but regardless you will have built a monsterous future proof system. It probably wont perform better due to the 2x6800ultras but if you ever wish to upgrade to a second gt your rig would kill it.

i didnt read the thread but a 7800gt (gtx too) uses much less power than a 6800 ultra. i doubt you will have to get a new psu.

Actually a P4 at 4.4Ghz isnt going to bottleneck his system too much(but keep in mind he'll probably game at high res so it'll be on GPU's more than the CPUs), go for the SLI 7800GT's

How can you expect to get $300 a piece when thats how much an EXPENSIVE 7800GT costs?!? (most cost 30 dollars less with a ton of games you can sell to even lower that price).

I think you are looking at around ~225 a piece at most.
