Thinking of buying my first LCD...

All I'm certain of at this point is that I want something with DVI and possibly 8ms or less response time, as I'm a gamer.

I've been reading through the LCD guides on Anandtech and Tom's Hardware, but the conclusion I keep getting is that there's really no way to determine what kind of LCD is the best purchase because every company runs their tests differently. Great, so I may be buying something for more with the same quality as something else that I could purchase for less?

Can anyone help? I'm looking for a decent 17-19 inch LCD monitor that I can game with. I'm clueless 😕

probably want to snag one of viewsonic's new 3ms LCD. it's rated at 4ms but viewsonic said that after further investigation it can safely be rated at 3ms.

I wouldn't fork over cash for some super low response time montior. I just got my Dell 1704fpt for sub 200 and I've seen absolutely no ghosting in games like unreal tournament and HL2. And Dell says it has a response time of 12ms.

My advice is to not over-analyze your purchase. The differences in stuff like brightness and constrast ratio really aren't that big. I was nearly going crazy a few weeks ago trying to pick my monitor, and now that I have it, I realize almost any LCD would have made me happy. I fact, I started to realize that towards the end, and so I picked the Dell for their reputation of quality and extra features like a rotating screen.

this is a good topic cause i too want a lcd and my budget is around 300 usd i do massive amounts of gaming and alot of movie watching. and alittle photoshop some links would be appreciated if you own a lcd below 300 USD and u get 0 ghosting and u luv watching movies on it

i paid 550 canadian for my lcd in february so its probably under 300 US now, benq fp937s, 12ms, no ghosting in any games i've played (cs:s, farcry, rome:total war, I tested ouf nfsu2, pirates, madden, san andreas), video is fine but resolution is more noticeble than on crts (you can tell if what your watching is low res), dvd movies are fine

i'm getting a tv tuner on tuesday so i'm a little curious about how it will look on it
