thinking of buying a puppy online

destined

Senior member
is this a smart idea? i dont' want to buy from puppy mills either. this would be my first pet. is it safe to get get pets online? i want to spend less than 800 for a pembroke welsh corgi. all opions would be helpful.

No.

1) A reputable breeder would never sell a puppy without first meeting the potential owner and asking them questions about their living situation, home, etc.
2) You need to see the puppy for a bunch of reasons, a few of which are:
a) you need to see the puppy's personality--how it reacts to you, is it friendly, etc. etc.
b) you need to see if the puppy is healthy--you can't possibly know via an online pic.

I had a friend who bought a miniature pinscher online from a breeder. It was a great (although yappy) little dog. It's not something I'd really recommend though. It's always best to be able to interact with the dog before you commit to it.

Where do you live? I'm also looking for a PWC (I live in Los Angeles), and there are four breeders in the area (within a 2 hr drive) that I'm currently communicating with. Many breeders won't breed a new litter until they have at least four or five interested parties lined up. Right now two of my breeders have new litters, and the pups will be six weeks old in a month or so (at which point I can actually go look at them).

A good place to start is here. You can either find breeders through their or one of the approved affiliate regional clubs.

Are you kidding? NO

You're not going to buy a dog because he's 'cute'

You want a dog because it's playful. You don't want a timid dog that will just cower and hide everytime you go up to it. Nor do you want a dog that will bite your GF's head off. You gotta go see the dog and find the dog that's in the middle ground.

Buying a dog online is the stupidest idea I've ever heard.

i could be mistaken. i wouldn't really care, where i get the dog as long as its a corgi and its healthy.

do we have to fly to the destination to pick them up (from petfinder.com) ? Or is there another way they handle them ?

You use it to search for a local shelter that has the type of pet you are looking for...

I used it to find a kitten. Shelters are the best, you get plenty of time to interact with the animal before deciding and you support a good institution. It might be hard to find a particular breed of corgi from a shelter, but its worth a try. Good luck😀

go to the pound and save a dogs life instead. Thats where Ive gotten all of my pets (either that or they are strays) Dogs are dogs. I don't need an uber breed dog to love it. Even of the dog has 3 legs and is cross eyed, its still going to be loyal because dogs rock!

agreed. you may think you need a corgi, but once you're at the pound, you'll fall in love with a least one doggy. I had a great mutt from the pound and my shelter cat is awesome.
