They make steel, floor-standing, stands. The usual way is to mount it directly to a ceiling joist. This has to be done very carefully and correctly, else you'll either have the bag fall on you or the entire ceiling come down on you. That would be some workout! :Q

I've been thinking about getting one as well, and the best way I could think of hanging it would be to build sort of a T-shaped tripod in a corner and hang it from that. Three boards running up the walls nailed into studs, one in the corner, one out on each connecting wall, then connecting them at the top and hanging the bag where the top boards meet. That way the weight would be held by the floor (and walls a bit) instead of the ceiling.

Indoors. Not really sure what size boards to use though, I was thinking 4x4's would be enough for the legs, I don't know about the top.

Have you thought about purchasing a speed bag instead? I purchased one last summer and have it mounted on the wall of my garage. Fortunately, the spacing of the studs was right on so I could mount the rails that hold the unit directly to the wall. The speed bag and all mounting gear was only $40 at Modells. I then purchased a leather pair of gloves for using the bag which were another $20. $60 for one of the best health investments that I've ever made.

Whether you purchase a speed bag or a punching bag, you'll get a good workout. Plus, it's a good way to release adrenaline and work out any anger that you might be carrying.

don't punching bags have like a stand that you can just buy? How much would a punching bag + stand cost?

They're better known as heavy bags these days... but you can get a stand for them.

Heavy bags have stands for them, they're......I don't know how to explain the design, but it's very simple and just tubular metal. Not cheap tho. I have one at home which I hung from an exposed support beam in the basement, but the rope was shredding through...I've thought about making one with PVC piping...

Let me know how it goes. :)

Sam's Club Deal

This is what I have and I think its rather cool for a beginner. It comes with all that you need. I have mine mounted in my basement on the ceiling floor runners. It comes with everything you need.
