Ok pretty soon I'm gonna upgrade to a dual proc system. Ill be using either a Tiger 100 with slotkets or a msi 694d. Either way I'll be using socket cpus. Now my plan is to buy a 100mhz cpu and overclock it to a 133mhz bus. However this isnt always guarantedd especially when you're going for big speed gains. I'm planning on going 700@933 or 800@1066. By the way does intel make a 750 cpu? Anyway I decided a peltier would be the best way to make sure everything works. I've heard the horror stories so I've decided I'm gonna get a weaker peltier so that it will still cool the cpu better than a noraml fan/heatsink but not create the dangerous condensation that a high power peltier would create. Am I doing the right thing? Also many places sell Leufkens peltiers. Are these the best ones? And since im gonna need two of these babies will i need a new power supply? I currently have a 300watt one.

Thanks,
Fenix

from what ive heard, pelters just arent worth it. if you go for a weaker pelter you probably wont see a huge difference between that and a good heatsink. if you had a badass pelter and a water cooler along with the proper insulation you would definately see a big diff from air cooling. and the risks and horror stories are also there, and also... come cpu's just wont hit those speeds. luck plays a role here too ;)

I understand the risks but a 52 watt peltier with a copper shim should be able to cool and 800@1066 right? I'll probably have to add more voltage and if I get a tiger I wont have room for a massive heatsink. And a peltier and a somewhat large heatsink seems much more elegant.

I have a bit of advice I have learned from the horror stories. Check to see that the peltiers are transferring the heat in the proper direction (away from the CPU to the heatsink) before crunching some bytes with that P3. As for the fan, reliability is top priority (this is what hardware monitoring is all about). With that said go for it! I can tell form your post that this is an extreme OC, so you know the risk.

Yes, they do make a PIIIe 750Mhz, that are priced around $300 for retail and 270 for OEM. The "Golden Orb" would be a good bet for size and cooling effectiveness.

I think you will need a 400Watt Power supply. I am assuming that the peltiers will be running on 12volts. 300Watts may be good for mast, but think of how that power is divided up. With a 300Watt power supple, 150 watts in most cases goes to the 3.3volt and 5.0 volt outputs. If 150watts goes to the 3.3V+5.0V combined rating, this leaves you with 150 watts for the 12Volt output. Do the math (150-104= 46)! 46Watts will not be good for you. I think you will have some drives to power (7200RPM hard drives come to mind). 400Watts looks much better. 155Watts for the 3.3V+5.0V combined output. 245Watts for the 12Volt outputs looks great (245-104= 141). This should leave you with about 141Watts for all you 12Volt needs (Drives, Fans, etc./ closer to what you are used to with a 300Watt PS)

Look at the 3.3V+5.0V "combined output" for any power supply you consider. The combined output subtracted from the total output (400Watt power supply for example) will give you the output for the 12Volt output. The 12Volt output will the key to your power needs. You may also see the word "rail" used where I used the word "output." ***For example 12Volt output = 12Volt rail***

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Another thing, I'm pretty sure I need to coat the edges of the peltier with silicone, is that called potting? If not what is potting and why do you do it? I've been under the impression that it stops condensation but I need to know for sure.

I would talk to Mr.Leufken himself. He's a nice guy, and is very knowledgeable about what will, or will not work with his stuff. I forgot his e-mail addy, but hopefully you can find it. From what I've heard, many a Coppermine have cracked from peltier use.
