hey guys...im thinking about getting a new system...and transferring some of the parts from my old one....im gonna keep my 100gb ide hdd, and my cdrw and the dvd drive. basically, i need ram(preferably 2gb), socket 939 or am2 cpu(im not sure which yet), if am2 i will need a new mobo, if 939 i will probably keep my evga nf-41 video card, case, and power supply. the budget for all that is more or less 1000. i built a system about a year ago..and i havent looked at parts or anything ever since, so i am out of the whole game. it would be great if some if some of you thought of good combos for a steady gaming system and possibly a overclocker. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

If you go either AM2 or Conroe/Allendale (Core 2 Duo), then you're going to have to buy new RAM, also. Of course, I'd be seriously interested in buying that RAM you have now from you, if you did. Anyway, for AM2, this is what I'd do:
motherboard: DFI Infinity NF Ultra II
processor: single core AM2 3800 (2.4 ghz) or dual-core X2 4200 (2x2.2 Ghz), or even an X2 4600 (dual 2.4 Ghz)
power supply: 500 watt Enermax Liberty or OCZ GameXStream 600 watt psu
memory: Corsair XMS2 PC2-6400

If you want to go Core 2 Duo, it's hard to say which motherboards are the best, since the processors have only been available for about a week now. Also, no matter which motherboard you buy, you'll have to buy another LGA775 processor, to be able to update the BIOS, so the board will support Core 2 Duos. Any "normal" LGA775 proc. will work, though, including the Celerons. Also, the Asus motherboard that everyone wants, the P5W DH, won't let you use anything but 5-5-5-x RAM, unless you use a stick of 5-5-5-x RAM, and set the BIOS to 4-4-4-x, if that matters to you.

i agree with all this except if you can, upgrade to the E6600. also, change the psu to an enermax liberty 500w

thanks guys...iver read a couple of reviews last night....and it seems that i will go with the conroe e6400....it tests it has been beter/same/close to fx-62 and fx 62 is more than twice the price so that seems to be the way to go. now i need to decide on the lga 775 mobo and a power supply, and a case. any suggestions? do i HAVE to have another lga 775 chip in order for the computer to work??

guys...i think ive made my decision...im gonna go with asus p5w dh deluxe for a mobo, intel conroe e6600 for cpu....ram undecided yet, but definetly 2gb, probably ati X1900XT, and i still need to decide a pws and case..i am keeping my hard drive+cd-rw+dvd drive. so my questions is here...im 14 and i have a job..i get paid approximately 240 every 2 weeks..do u guys think i should buy the pc part by part with every paycheck or should i save up and wait until i can buy all at once?..i am asking this because i will probably spend the money unless i get the pc part by part, but on the other side, the prices could go down by the time im donw saving up...WHAT SHOULD I DO?..and any suggestions for pws, case, ran, ect. would be great!
