thinking of buying a new monitor

I'm in the market for a new monitor and I was thinking of getting the samsung 172W which is a widescreen 17 inch flat panel or a 19 inch CRT monitor (i'm not sure which one yet, i'm looking somwhere between the 350-450 dollars range). I usually use my computer for gaming. I've never had a flat panel monitor before so I wanted to try it out( the 172w is a pretty good price at 409 with tax included), but if the pros of a 19" crt monitor is better, then I'll stick w/ crt. Thanks for the suggestions in advance.

Unless you're short on space or need a monitor that you can lug around to lan parties, then a CRT can't be beat. Image quality, refresh rates, and price are all better in the CRT world. Of course, LCD's do tend to look pretty spiffy =)

For your rather large budget, you could easily get something even bigger than a 19in. CRT anyway.

Links to widescreen CRTs?

yeah, i was thinking about that resolution problem.. and if 17" was actually big enough to get a wide screen or would it have actually been too small. So I guess I'll go CRT. Anyone have suggestions? looking for something either 19-21 inch. I heard NEC/Mitsubishi was a good brand but I don't know too much about monitors. around preferrably not going over 400 but might if the product is good =).

oh and if I am going crt, it's probably not going to be widescreen and just go for a 4:3 AR. I saw widescreen crt but it was huge and i believe 1 or 2k.. totally out of my budget =)

I rarely notice any difference in refresh rates over 75 well unless u video tape the screen. But under 75 can give people headaches.
