Thinking of building a new rig, should I wait?

Well I'm planning on building a new rig and I was wondering, do you guys think I should wait before Christmas? I don't want to end up paying too much if I know I can get it cheaper around Christmas time from newegg.com.

My Athlon XP Barton 2400+ isn't kicking it no more like it use to back in the day, so I'm looking to upgrade to the A64+ Venice Socket 939. Let me know what you guys think! Thanks!

I would just buy/sell/trade of the forums and you could get away with a noticable upgrade for a few hundred $$.

I just bought new everything besides case, optical and hard drives and it was about 500, after selling current stuff i am hoping to claw back 3-400

I placed my first order with zipzoomfly a few days ago. Then, I realized that they had a 15% restocking fee and I would have to pay for shipping. I am now worried that when I get the order if something is wrong with it, I may have to pay the restocking fee and the shipping to send it back! This may be my last order at zipzoomfly.

Anyway. Its such a bitch to decide if you should upgrade now. I always just say, if the feelings right do it. If you're too concerned about falling behind, you'll never get it upgraded.

yea..I'm in the same boat. I would like to upgrade but not sure when to do it.

My pc specs:

Athlon XP 2500+
1 gig pc 3200 ram
Radeon 9800
Turtle Bench Santa Cruz

..etc.. now most new games still run very well on my 2.5 year old pc but the last 2 games I've played (F.E.A.R and Call of Duty 2) are the first 2 games in a long time where I had to bring down settings and resolutions to get playable framerates. CoD2 is practically unplayable sometimes in DX9 mode.

I'm tempted to upgrade and get a mobo that has a great cpu range..y'know..I could buy one with a A64 3200+ but the mobo will accept the fastest dual core X2 so at least I have upgrade options in the future.

yes...decisions ..decisions.. I'll probably wait till january unless I see some amazing deals.

I have not had very good experiences with zipzoomfly as customer service is almost non existent. As for upgrading computer the good thing about upgrading now days is the performance gap of old seems to be diminishing. Moore's law of processor speed doubling every 18 months has become obsolete as of late, so if you do upgrade you should be able to get to a good position that can last you a while. The 3200+ is a cpu that debuted 2 years ago and is still kicking today. If you really want to put yourself into a good position get a dual core and you should be set for some time to come.

I see myself getting a case, psu, mobo, cpu, vid card, and dvd burner by February.

IT gets real cheap around Christmas time...
