Thinking of beefing up the desktop, need opinions!

I?m currently entertaining the idea of beefing up my desktop in the new few weeks. I need some help coming up with new items. I?d need a new CPU, MB, RAM (I assume), and HHD. I already know which HHD I?d get, I just need some insight as to what the current ?bests? are. I?m thinking of going with an AMD because of the price difference. But I see their best is 333mhz FSB where the P4s have 800mhz. Does this make a huge difference? Is it worth the extra cost? Thanks!

I didn't really have a budget in mind. I don't see myself paying more than $500-600 for everything though.

FSB speed isn't going to make a significant difference, you're comparing amd vs P4. I'd go w/ a an amd barton based system myself.

That's what I was thinking.

I still need to justify this to myself. I just bought a laptop in Dec to use for school. I just miss working on my desktop. It's so much faster and it just sits here. I guess I could still use my laptop for consulting work I do and to take it to school. unno: I certainly wouldn't like moving files across computers almost everyday.
