Thinking Of A Hawaii Vaction This Year?

Well if you're looking for that island paradise get away to Hawaii this year, and you are thinking you are going to a real island, like something you saw out of Blue Lagoon, and that people are still living in grass huts, and paddle around in dug out canoes, then you are in for a shock.

Honestly there are islands where people do live like this, and if that is your island get away dream that you were thinking of this year, then Hawaii isn't really it, but the Big Island, Kauai, Molokai, and Lanai, offer a little more for the real island experience.

Oahu, is a mini city, and Maui is becoming the next rat race, all though on Maui, Hana is a very nice experience for real island, but beyond that there is very little.

Hawaii is like visiting Disney land, a fun time, but without the real experience, just a nice thrill of it, what it might be like...

So when you are considering looking for REAL islands in the South Pacific, you'll want to look else where then Hawaii this year, especially Maui for those that have been to the island in past, because of the explosive amount of growth over the last 3 years that has turned the island upside down.

Have fun, and I hope you find that real island you are looking for this summer.

P.S. I edited the post because people had the wrong impression of what this was for, and it's for YOU!

Summed up, I'm just trying to share with you, that if you're looking for a real island out there off the beaten track without much western civilization around, then you'll want to look else where is all, but don't take it wrong, Hawaii is nice, it's just not off the beaten track, and pretty modern.

Do some RESEARCH, it's easy to see how modern Hawaii is, compared to the rest of the south pacific.

Can you explain a little more? I went to Maui 7 years ago and enjoyed it very much. I was thinking about going back this summer or the next.

7 years ago was a different story.

Kihei was one of the fastest growing towns in the USA about 3 years ago, and because of that it has turned into a mini southern california here.

The Star Bulletin article is 4 years old, rent has doubled since then...

http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-833523-kihei_khei-i

Yahoo travel says: inexpensive lodging and dining options No way more like VERY expensive lodging and dining!

After 16 years I'm ready to leave, HONESTLY Maui is turning into a dump fast!

Oh this is what they're building here next in Kihei:

LOL, does that Piilani Place look like small town Hawaii to you? :(

Hell yes, you should see the drivers on the road now.

Do you remember Kihei Beach road, 20MPH?

Well now, they pass people on Kihei road at times, and almost run people over in the cross walks.

Many roads have been widened, and now people are doing on average 20 mph over the speed limit, and flying back and forth across the lanes, and tail-gating.

You can hardly drive up and down the beach roads now without someone on your rear, either getting ready to blow a horn, or pass on a double yellow line.

The damm Americans moving here are screwing it up BIG TIME!

Besides that the stores are really get crowded, people are getting pushy, and not friendly anymore, and if you don't believe me, then I invite anyone to come and see, especially if you were here over 7 years ago last time.

Yes it may not be L.A. or New York City, BUT this is not small town Hawaii anymore either, it's not so laid back, and it is becoming a rat race for sure.

Uh, if you live in Hawaii, you are an American.

I'm talking about the ones that just moved here. People that have been here over 15 years on Maui are a different breed.

I'm an American that has lived in islands almost all my adult life, through out the South Pacific, New Zealand, Norfolk Island, Solomon Islands, Pohnpei & Truk Micronesia, Guam, and Saipan, I am far from being your typical American, and when I moved to Maui it was from Saipan not the mainland America.

No there's a very big difference, from what real island is, and real island people then people who just flew in from America to live here, they have no clue.

Americans who don't know island and what it means I'm talking about, and those are the damm Americans I'm talking about, and I don't know these people or consider them to be my own, they are from a different world then me.

Even my wife is Asian, and of my 3 children, two were born in Saipan, and one here on Maui, plus my children have never lived in the Mainland...

ALOHA

P.S. Again this isn't my cry story to you, it's the truth of Maui I'm sharing, so you'll not bother coming here to this place, and save yourself the money, and go to visit a real laid back island for a better vacation then Maui.

Yeah, WTF?

I think he means people from mainland America who come to the islands looking to turn it into a city that they are more used to, thus why it apparently has become like southern CA.... and not like the laid back place I remember it being.

MB you are absolutely correct, people that want their beaches, and laid back life, but they need their microwaves, cell phones, and black books too, because they can't live without them.

Yes these are mainland people that need everything, and are turning it upside down to suit them. People that don't know to leave things alone, and what is becoming typical mainland lifestyle crap.

Build, grown, develop, etc... etc...

Just think about this for one second, when you think about Hawaii, and island vacation, are you thinking about traffic, growth, and development?

I certainly hope not...

I think I'll go to Hawaii just to make u a lil' bit more madder

and I'll honk my rental car as much as I please

I won't do the above if u manage to stop the punk ass tourists in NYC from walking at .002 mph while looking up with a coffee in one hand and camera in the other

Just remember this, Hawaii was not the typical mainland values of life, it was about a simpler time, not about growing, developing, and owning.

Now California has moved to town, and gee they think we should all have big houses, drive Hummers, suck up the gas, drive fast, party it up, and live the fast life here, just like anywhere else.

Yep Maui wants it all now, and the fast life too, it's so sad... :(

This place is too expensive now and because I didn't have the forsight to purchase property I'm now being forced to leave because my drifter lifestyle doesn't afford me the luxury any longer. And since, as always, it's not my fault, I'm going to pin it on pushy mainlanders moving in and brining with them their "modern" expectations concerning conveniences.

Your not going to bother me, I'm just sharing this, so people like you that would really love to experience an island vacation can really go and find one, and not waste your trip on this place that's all. It's for your benefit, and hard earned dollars, that's all.

People that have never been here, and are truly looking for that island paradise, and are thinking about blue lagoon, should know the truth, this is not that palce!

Go to the REAL islands of the south pacific, then you'll really find a island paradise.

I want to visit Hawaii and imagine I would love to live there. I am fascinated with life along the California Pacific Coast, however water temperature keeps me from ever wanting to live there. Next best place (and better I'd imagine) is Hawaii. However, I think I'd need to visit all of the islands to decide which I would be interested in living on.
Then again, this is likely 20+ years from now, as I won't have a permanent residence anywhere I necessarily want to, due to the fact I'll be at whatever base I am assigned.

Not at all, very wrong.

I'm a business man with a wife and 3 kids, and I'm only waking up people's eyes to the truth of Maui, it's not a great place to visit any more, or live here, that's all.

My guess it will only get more and more congested since so many people enjoy Hawaii, especially with telecommuting and such, until the population density of the island far exceeds los angeles.

Do you own property?

FWIW, we always visit the Big Island and maybe Kauai when we visit. Realistically, people in Hawaii need a place to pursue their capitalistic goals and that means some places like Oahu that offer them a speedier lifestyle. You can't blame them for that......not everybody, including Hawaiians, wants to move at a languid pace.

edit:
Thus, I'd be retired when I'd be interested in living there, and I'd seek the laid-back life. Sure, I'd have a TV, microwave, and other normal 'American' things in the house, but I'd keep it to my house. I'd be on the deck a lot, read books on the beach and just enjoy life. If I ever get to live this dream, we'll see.

(dammit, I hit quote and not edit! oh well, I'll keep the edit on this one)

Oh HeroOfPellinor for your info too, I happen to live in a very nice townhouse across the street from the beach, and we have a very good life, BUT it's not the island life I seek to have anymore, it's become to California, Florida around here is all.

Tourists and people coming here need to know the truth that's all, come and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Then again, if someone is coming from a big city as I mentioned before, like L.A., yes it will be small, that's a fact, but you'll also come to see that it is not some blue lagoon island out in the middle of the pacific, like some far away get away that no one knows anything about either.

If you're looking for the real polynesian adventure of Bora Bora, or the Cook Islands, you'll see that Maui is just a tourist trap.

If you are coming from a big city in America with millions of people, and you just want a smaller place to go to, then you might love it.

P.S. Don't take me wrong here, the scenery is beautiful, it's just the pace of the island is not what most people expect it to be, that's all. By the way when you come here, go to HANA, now that is the last real place of island on Maui.

Google --> Hana Maui :)
