Thinking I might start using iPhoto for my photo management...

But i'm not really sure if its the best option for me right now...

I shoot in Raw + Fine JPG and as a result have nearly 50-60gb of images.

How well does iPhoto work with such a large library? Also, how would one go about organizing all the duplicates?

Any suggestions?

try aperture...way more professional.

Well im still using CS3 for my photo editing, i'm just looking for a better way to just organize everything. Also, if i get things in iPhoto it would be easier for me to integrate it with Mobile Me (once released) as well as use Medialink to stream my library to my ps3 (it ties in directly with iPhoto)

I have tried iphoto and while it isn't bad for photo management, I think there are better solutions.

If you are currently using CS3 then I would recommend just a basic folder structure and Bridge as your organizational method.

The main problem that I have with iPhoto is that it is a bit too generic for my organizing needs. I know that you can do smart folders and all but I still prefer Lightroom and Aperture's project method with folders underneath.

The best thing for to do, though, would be to export about 100-200 of your photos and just see how it integrates with your workflow.

iphoto is too limiting IMO. Your best bet is Aperture since you want integration into the Apple stuff. It can really simplify your workflow.

Aperture 2 is hands-down the best so far. For most of your basic corrections like color corrections, it's like Photoshop on speed. My wife has a couple hundred gigs of photos and it just flies.

Does Aperture have anything akin to Unsharp mask?

Did a bit of looking, and it appears that it does indeed have a feature that is similar to Photoshop's Unsharp Mask. It's called "Definition" and it's in the "Enhance" section of the "Adjustments" panel.

Rock on, thanks!

So far I really like it, but man is it hard as hell to change my workflow. I've been using photoshop for so many years now, its a struggle to learn something new 🙂

I'm gonna keep with it though, see how I can adapt...
