thinking I might pick up 2015 STi

My wife hates my 997. She thinks it's too small for the family to ride in yet I do it nearly everyday with two car seats in the back without issue. the trouble is that she bitches about having to always drive when we go somewhere. Being the nice guy I am I have agreed to move to another car.

This go round I think I am going to do a 4 door. What do you all recommend.

Things that have my attention

All 2015's

Gti- which I would APR flash
Golf R
WRX
WRX STi

I really have narrowed it down to those but will entertain advise from others.

If you get any of those you listed are you going to cut your balls off and hang them from the rear view mirror in a cute little sack so you can remember the 911 you use to have?
Your wife will appreciate the gesture. 😉

And I'm gonna have to +1 the CTS-V Sedan, M3 Sedan, maybe even a Hellcat Charger, the list goes on and on.

STI isn't worth the extra money over the WRX. The FA20DIT motor is fantastic and gets much better gas mileage. Unless you're tracking it, the STI isn't worth it.

LOL - I'm just remembering the original thread where everyone said you were crazy to want a 911 with small children. Hopefully you had fun with the car to make it somewhat worth the tradeoffs.

WRX/STI should be roomier than the VWs...so while the VWs will be SUV-like compared to the 911, it won't be a huge step up.

Golf r is going to be the nicer car of them all. Performance is quite close although the sti may have a slight advantage on a track. Interior wise the golf easily wins, as well as general road manners and noise. The biggest problem would be getting one. VW has really dropped the ball on this GTI launch and its hard to find a proper selection. For the golf r honestly you'll have to order one and since it comes from Germany expect around a 4 month (or more) wait. Also the 2016 order guide is expected to launch in April, and I'm hearing some orders for gtis are already being held for 2016 models.

I owned a 05 wrx and while it was a lot of fun, it wasn't terribly refined. The new ones of course are better but not really on the levels of competitors. Thus right now I'm waiting on VW to build me a GTI with performance pack, maybe may delivery if I'm lucky and my order gets through on the last 2015 builds. Otherwise its looking like possibly August, and I can't wait that long.

I am crazy.... and for me and my duties the 911 has been great. The trouble is that my wife is the type that only like big vehicles. I could keep the car and be fine. I'm just to appease her. A car is just a car and all it'll ever be. I can always get another one down the road. In fact I look at it as a free ticket to play with a new toy. Hopefully she'll hate the next one too 😉 Do you honestly think I think she'll like an STi?

She won't like the STi... Generalizing here a bit, but I think that tends to be a car that dudes like and chicks don't.

I think you might have a hard time going from an 997 to an STi. The STi is an economy car with some go-fast bits. Cheap interior and there are already quite a few owners complaining about squeaks and rattles. And yes there is an STi in my garage although it's an older model. It's fun but doesn't compare to the fit and finish and ride quality of the variety of European cars I've owned.

Throwing out some other ideas that may be more comparable to a 997: Audi S3 sedan, Genesis R-Spec, Lexus IS-F, M3 sedan, CLA AMG 4matic

I've thought about the S3 but it is auto only. I should have mentioned that I am a stick only kind of guy. Never have I driven an Auto daily and I'm not about to start. I'm really not looking for any big american vehicles either. I'm really not too picky about the interior build quality because for now the kiddos will be in the back quite often

The S4 can be had with a stick, which I didn't realize until recently.

Please go buy one so they will keep offering it.
