Thinking about upgrading to 6950 crossfire, thoughts?

I'm debating picking up two of the Sapphire Toxic 6950s for a crossfire setup. I currently run a 5870+5850 (stock clocks) in crossfire. Think this will be a worthy performance boost, or am I better off waiting around for the 7k series?

Edit: Rest of my specs:
i5 750 @ 3.5Ghz
8GB DDR3 @ 1400 MHz
1920x1080 is my gaming resolution

I wouldn't recommend it, not with the potential for 28nm being released within two quarters' time.

I'm running dual 6970s. The upgrade would be significant considering how much better the 6 series is at crossfire scaling. Just make sure your cpu can keep up.

Chinoman brings up a valid point. Just keep it in mind.

I added specs to my main post.

I've been debating upgrading my CPU cooler (Hyper 212) for a Corsair H100) or possibly moving over to Sandybridge as well.

Are you upgrading in anticipation for Battlefield 3, perhaps?

Your current setup with a Sandy Bridge upgrade would kick that game's ass.

i would either get a better cooler to get another 500+MHz out of the i5, or go to SB with your 212+.

the 2500K wouldnt need much more cooling than a 212+ to hit high clocks. the i5 750 on the other hand, can become a little space heater with enough frequency and voltage.

Pretty much.

Let's just say I have a very good idea of how it performs on my PC right now and it isn't bad by any means, but I came by some money on my bday and am wondering how I can best improve.

Just to clarify, I'm running a 5870 + 5850 currently, not 5850x2.

What about going from the 750 to the 2600k? Seems like a bigger leap then to the 2500k.

I would go for a 2500k rather than a 2600k and put your 212+ on it. Put the savings toward your future graphics upgrade.

Yeah, I thought about it...then decided what the hell. My bro is going to buy my current stuff for $250. Ended up going 2600k, Asus p8z68-v pro, and Corsair H100. I'll plan on a video card upgrade in Q1 next year.

Not worth it.

Next gen cards are coming soon, and in any case its doubtful that you'd see much of an improvement given your screen resolution. Surely 5870+5850 is enough to give you solid framerates at 1080p ?
