I've never wanted an iPod , I guess CDs have been enough for me and i've always kinda thought I was too old for one. But now that I have an iMac and have played around with iTunes a bit I think id like to try one.

Apple has refurb Nanos going for $99, is the Nano a good iPod or should I consider another model?

thanks

What are you going to use it for? Do you have a large music library? Do you care to watch videos on the go? If you don't care for videos and you just want to listen to music on your free time then the nano is a good choice, but you just sacrifice the amount of music you can carry with you. I have an Ipod classic 120gig. I don't really watch videos on it but I do have a pretty hefty music library and I like carrying it all with me. I also use a shuffle since its so small and light when I workout/go snowboarding.

I have a good sized CD collection and I have a pretty nice home theater and a good sized blu-ray collection. Id say I have around 15 blu-rays that came with digital copies. In all honesty I just do not see a use for those . If I had to fly alot for business or something then I might see a use for em but that is not the case. When I have time to sit down and watch a movie I prefer to watch it on my home theater system which ive invested around $10,000 into.

As far as my music collection goes, if I am at home I want to hear it on my system. In my car or actually suv is where it might be nice to have an iPod. Although I am not sure if my 2006 Honda Element has what is needed to plug in an iPod.

Not having to carry CDs in and out of the Element would be nice. I think if I had an iPod that could hold around 30-50 CDs that would be about perfect.

So I guess an iPod that is easy to use while driving and that can hold around 30 CDs is what I need.

Easy to use blindly and 30 CDs......... which ones should I consider?

My mother's '06 Element has a minijack input just above the glove compartment next to the DC outlet (cigarette lighter hole).

30 CDs? So that's what... 300-450 songs? Even at lossless that is less than 4GB I think. An entry level Nano will suit the bill perfectly. The 4GB is rated at 1000 songs (256Kbps AAC), and it scales from there.

Yes, the nano would probably suit fine. However, you seem sort of "gadgety" or into electronics, so an ipod touch might cater to that better. If you strictly want it for music, the nano is great.

The iPod Touch is nice, but it is an $80 swing between the two if OP gets the 8GB model. If OP wants to get 16GB, then it is a $100 difference.

However, the OP would like to be able to control the device blind which you cannot easily do with the Touch, but can absolutely do with the Nano.

Good arguments on both sides, but remember, the OP can always just "play and forget" a given playlist. And given what he's said, it wouldn't be crazy just to shuffle through all of those CD's (or through those of a given style) on one playlist.

I have a Touch and a Nano, and while I like both, the Touch is the one I carry with me (mostly because it's also a PDA, email machine). If the OP needs that at all (and has access to wifi networks) then I'd say the Touch hands down.

Thanks guys, I just now ordered a green 8gb iPod Nano, $107.XX w/tax shipped., I figure this is a good starter iPod, I can always get another if it turns out that I like the iPod thing.

Oh and Tyranicus, that is correct my Element is iPod ready.

Thanks alot everyone.

This is a late reply but you are 100% correct. If the Nano works out well I will probably go with a Touch next.

But hey! I gotta share something else. I am having a blast with iTunes on my new iMac, I NEVER would have thought it would be of any use to have more copies of my CD collection. I was wrong, iTunes is sooooooo much fun. In all honesty ive never had more fun with my CD collection!! Geez, I can play a single song off one CD and in less than 5 seconds listen to another song on another album altogether.
The remote that came with my iMac makes this all even more fun.
Gee and I got like 200 more CDs I gotta get on my iMac.
