comes out to $732.99 total. i wish i could get it under $600 though but I can't see how to do that. I have a guitar amp that I am trying to sell and my BFG 6800 video card is being sent back to BFG and so far it looks like they'll be sending me a brand new one, so I can try to sell that too. that will help offset the cost a bit.


i could save more money by not getting the dual core, but i have a socket 754 athlon 64 3400+ and its probably not going to be much of an upgrade if i don't go to dual core, right?
 
Are you going to just be doing gaming or do you do any video decoding or applications with your computer? From reviews Ive seen the X2's arent as good as the plain a64s for games. I would go with the Athlon 64 3700+. Its cheaper then the x2 3800 and can be found for about $260. Its the cheapest Athlon 64 processor with a 1 mb L2 cache like the FX and runs at 2.2 ghz. Overclocking it to 2.4 would make it equal to a 4000/fx53 and so on. Ive heard of people who got it up to 3.0 ghz. For your video card the 7800 GT is great though newegg is listing it for $399 and you can find it on pricegrabber.com for about $340. Ive never had an EVGA motherboard i always use asus and they work well for me. Thats a pretty good deal for the mb and gpu though so i would get that. Newegg is a good place to buy parts but it has tax. use pricegrabber.com or pricewatch.com to find the lowest prices.

oh i didnt read the bottom part. i have a socket 757 athlon 64 3000 and a socket 939 athlon 64 3000, they get almost identical scores. IMHO the 3700 would be a good upgrade especially if you overclocked it to FX speeds (2.4, 2.6 , 2.8 ghz or higher).

so the dual core wouldn't help me out that much then?
the reaso i went with that video card was because it came with the motherboard for free, since i will need to upgrade my motherboard. the asus and epox boards i wanted were around $100 so i am trying to save money.

so if i go athlon 64 3700+ and that video card/motherboard combo, it puts me at $633 or so which is about $100 cheaper than my original setup. the thing is that i don't know how to overclock and i've read a few tutorials on it and still can't figure it out.
 
went with the evga 7800gt and the free evga motherboard and a athlon 64 3700+

this made my wallet happier than the x2 3800 did.
 
i tried that guide, the stuff he is talking about doesn't match anything like that on my current motherboard.
