Thinking about switching cell service

I've always heard Verizon has this great network, but we've been getting a lot of dropped calls lately. Is Sprint's better? Many of our friends are on Sprint, and talking to them for free would be nice. How do the phones compare? My wife wants to get the enV if we stay with Verizon. Are there any comparable Sprint phones?

Thanks for the help.

i voted they both suck, and not just in jest. sprint service sucks, verizon customer service sucks more, and theyre not even gsm. tmobile is the way to go

depends on your area, sprint is strong in my area, but I havent used verizon around here. My girlfriends att/cingular sucks hard, it sucked when it was att and cingular has downgraded the service to force her to pay fees and get on their full network

I used to have Verizon, and now I have Cingular, and it's been awesome for me. The only place I've been that I had no service was this small little town in Ohio I was working in...

Sprint has the only high speed data network. I'm not sure but I think they also have fewer dropped calls.

I have had only good experiences with Verizon. I just saw on the news last night that Verizon has had the most satisified customers in the bay area 60%. I really depends on where you live. I get a strong signal everywhere I go and evdo works great as well.

This question is impossible to ask unless you are asking your neighbors because it depends on your area.

dont start a coverage debate because we are all in different areas, but regarding the verizon customer service sucks comment... verizon is prolly the only company that dosent outsource its customer service, they are all real verizon employees located in the US. on the other hand sprint outsources all its customer service to other counties and the reps make up rules and policies which dont exist just to get the customer of the phone.

btw.. im currently a verizon employee and ex sprint/nextel employee.

btw take a look at the numbers of subscribers that verizon and sprint have added in the last several quarters, ul be surprised. Ive only been with verizon for several months and came across with more people that have had verizon since the early 90's then i ever saw on sprint/nextel. verizon customers stick with verizon the longest and verizon has the lowest churn rate in the industry.

gsm is inferior technology, so that's a plus point in favor of verizon and sprint.

I've had Sprint, Cingular, Tmobile, Nextel and now Verizon and Verizon is by far the best reception/service wise.

What is an enV? I work for a cell phone distribution company, i can probably find a like model if you give me the model number of an "enV".

Nevermind, it is an LG VX9900. Go to phonescoop.com and check out that stuff. that should help you.

It depends on where u are. If you're up north like in the midwest, verizon will be nice to get. But if u can get Cingular, i would recommend it before Verizon.

GSM is a global technology... so is UMTS/HSDPA

CDMA and EV-DO are not.

Sprint was good in my hometown. I never got dropped calls. But in my college town I get dropped calls a ton, mainly due to me being inside a big dorm.

I had the same phone number from Sprint from July 1999 - September 2006...and never had any real problems, except for my voicemail being screwed up for about 2 weeks. I'd definitely recommend Sprint, at least for those in the NYC area.

I changed recently to Nextel, and it is total garbage, but I am addicted enough to Direct-Connect to keep it.

Thanks for all the replies. We're in the Portland area, by the way. We had T-mobile before, but their coverage sucks ass around here. It's a shame because they do have the best plans.

flum0x: I'll check out phonescoop.com.

euro governments telling their people in an authoritarian manner that they can only use GSM and nothing else is a great reason to use inferior technology here in the US

i'll note that UMTS (3G GSM though it really isn't GSM, which is dead) is CDMA. but requires 4x the spectrum space of CDMA2000. yeah, that's awesome right there.

I'm in the Los Angeles area. I've had both, and the service for both is about the same around here. I'd go back to Sprint to save some money, but so many of my friends and family have Verizon that I'd be losing a lot of in-calling time... and I depend on it to stay under my minutes.

In this same seat, I get 3-4 bars on Verizon while I got 1 with Sprint. Test for yourself. But you can't have my seat.
