I have a couple of hobbies. One thing I've found missing is a good centralized product review site. I like the objective standpoint of epinions but want to model the reviews on the Amazon format.
I think that this Joomla extension will probably do everything I want (with tweaking).
One of the biggest questions I have at this point is how to handle and how concerned to be about product image usage, and names of retailers. Should I make a form letter asking for usage permission or how would I handle that?
For those of you that have created production sites, what's best-practice for creating a test environment? an upper-level domain maybe??
What about hosting, Cheap-free, as this is really just a hobby, but with healthy space bandwidth if it takes off or at least the option of upping without being raped...
(I feel kind of nervous about letting the cat out of the bag, but after consideration who cares, so.. it's home-brewing and home coffee roasting. Coffee has a dedicated community and lots of review sites, but I think there's a niche for green coffee reviews... though I'm still debating whether it's needed... because the crops change pretty quickly, outdating reviews...
)
Just brainstorming...
Update::
Ok guys, do what you do best and pull my good-spirited creative endeavor to shreds
BrewStuffReviews.com
Site hosting ala This HD thread.
Probably the next piece would be getting vendors on board...
All thoughts and feedback appreciated, constructive criticism's especially.
There's not much there, as I don't want to put up product without explicit permission to do so.... I'm not sure where to go to figure out what my legal responsibilities are so I'm playing it safe for the time being...
From what little I've gleaned from checking out the epinions forums about adding products, the parent companies have agreements with the manufacturers of the items reviewed and if the mfg hasn't agreed to let the item be reviewed they are not able to add them to the site.
Yikes! sounds like this may be to much legal mumbo-jumbo for a 'hobby'
(PS I do have a couple of threads on homebrew forums if you happen to run into them stop in and say hi)
