Thinking about setting up wireless in my home...

I'm thinking about making my house wireless and i was wondering if 802.11g is going to be the best technology out for a while?

I'm not exactly sure how a wireless network works, but I'm assuming I just need a wireless modem (router if i want to connect 2+ computers?) and network cards for the computers. Could anyone point me into a good direction for a nice setup for a 3-story house? Price shouldn't be a problem so reccommend some of the nicer stuff please.

Thanks for the help

You need a Broadband connection with Modem.

Modem connected to a Wireless Cable/DSL Router.

Such an arrangement can feed many Wires and Wireless Clients

Each client need to be connected with wire Network Card or Wireless Network Card.

Typical setting looks like this, http://www.ezlan.net/network/router.jpg

Which Wireless Network Card, http://www.ezlan.net/faq#wcard

What is available? Wireless What Should I Get?

You probably would need extra hardware to cover the whole house, there are few methods to pursue, the best one depends on the specific layout of the house.

Extending the Distance of Entry Level Wireless Network.

Wirelessly Bridging Home / Network.

This is what i'm looking at getting

router
wireless adapter for dell inspiron notebook
wireless adapter for desktop

I'm still unclear about spreading access throughout the house. The desktop will be on the 2nd floor (almost directly above the room with the router) and I'm not sure if can put a router to use as an access point on the second floor. I'm thinking that with this Linksys gear i should have a pretty large coverage area so I'm not sure if I should spend the money on another router to use as an access point for the 2nd floor. If i should get another access point, would this work? Also, does will the USB card cause any lag for the desktop?

Thanks for all the help🙂

The SRX has good coverage.

Start with the core system and see where you are.

The vendors would always be happy to sell you more at any time.😀
