Thinking about setting up a wireless network for streaming content

Hey, for christmas this year I am going to try to make my house wirelessly connected. I'll be starting with Comcast high speed internet and a router. In my house, there are 2 computers, I plan to have my computer be the main system and the other one is for everyone else. Also I'm planning on getting a Dell Axim with wireless capabilities to add to the network.
In addition to the basic home network, I also plan to stream my dvd's and mp3's onto my home theater. Currently I have over 150 DVD's, so I would like to know the easiest format/method to save them onto my computer. By putting all these on my computer, I will need to get a lot more space as I only have 80 gig's of space. If I could compress them a bit so that I could keep my whole collection under 1 TB that would be optimal. I was thinking I would build another comp only for my media collection and put it in the basement and leave it on all day. Does anyone know typically how much more it would cost a month (average) to run a comp like that (I would use 5400 rpm drives to save power)? Or is there a RF remote control I could use to turn on the comp whenever I wanted to watch a dvd? I was planning on using this to deliver the dvd's to my HT. However, it looks like it only does Mpeg videos, is there a box similar to this that can play dvd's and do the same things? If it sounds like I don't know what I'm talking about please explain to me how to set this up. Thanks
