Thinking about reformatting the beast this weekend

I got Vista through the Power Together web conference dealy and, with not much to do this weekend, I figured I'd go ahead and make the jump to it. Problem is, I have well over 300gb of files and programs that I'd need to say goodbye to. Anyone have a system for organizing and backing up those things you want to transfer? I have a 150gb external firewire drive that I'm going to use to help transfer some stuff over, but that'll still leave 150gb of other stuff I would (ideally) like to keep as well. Any ideas?

The way I have most stuff set up now is as follows:

HD1 (120gb IDE):
C Partition (20gb) = System files and other stuff I'm not too concerned about losing.
D Partition (100gb) = Mostly music and programs installed prior to getting my SATA drive.

HD2 (250gb SATA):
E = Different forms of acquired media totalling to around 240gb. Mostly used for storage, but I do have some applications installed on it.

Should I continue to use my SATA for storage? Or do you think I should flip the usage of my hard drives in my new build? That is, partition 20gb or so for Vista and leave the rest for applications, while using my smaller, slower drive for storage?
