I purchased an Opty 165 in February and overclocked it to 2.4 on 1.3 volts, cooled by a Zalman 7000 Cu. It has been running stable since. I never really tried to push it more because; 1) I was content, and 2) my temps. Asus probe shows I idle at 36-39C and under dual prime I hit about 59C, from what I understand you don?t want your temp to get past 60C.
I recently have been considering trying to see if I can get more out of my Opty (call it Conroe jealousy). So last night I ran S&M 1.3 to see what temps it would give me and to run the S&M stability test. It showed my idle temp at 42-44C, Asus probe still showed 38C. Running the S&M test it showed the cpu hitting 55C, Asus probe showed 59C. After the S&M test I ran 3dmark06 and then dual Prime for about 20-25 min, the max temp ?only? showed 54C in probe. Which temp program should I believe?
From what I?ve read the temps seem high, I?ve tried reapplying the AS5 and re-seating the heatsink but it made no difference. Could my temp sensor on my Asus A8N be reporting temps that are higher than they really are? I?ve touched the base of the heatsink and it feels warm but never hot, it?s feels cooler than my NB chip that has a Zalman heatsink with a fan blowing on it, Asus probe shows the NB temps between 35-40C. Ambient temps are from 70-78F.
If I decided to overclock it more and raise my vcore to 1.4, how much of an increase in my temps should I expect to see?
