Thinking about pulling the trigger on a Ford Escape XLS, any last thoughts?

Don't pull the trigger on it. It will damage the paint and you might hit an important wire or line.

We had an '08 and were impressed. Great gas mileage (30 mpg) if I was careful along I80 or I25.
Consistent on the mid 30s around city sand in the "hills" outside Denver. Tough enough to take a Tbone am Exhibition at 45mph and leave the cab intact with exception of airbags.

I was willing to replace it with another, but wife was superstitious and did not want another Ford

Can't recall if that year the 2.3 was a Mazda source engine or not. I was never a fan of the old Mustang 2.3 engine if thats what it has.

On the plus side, less than $6K for under 100K is not too shabby for something of that year/size. FWD so mpg will be better and less maintenance than AWD. The tranny will likely be the weak spot. If it comes with maintenance records and the tranny feels solid it could be a decent buy.

If that was in my area I'd be there ready to write a check. The wife needs a new car and an escape would do nicely. However, all the used ones in this area with that kind of mileage are far more expensive.

i would personaly look into finding one of the newer body style trucks but that seems like a clean truck with good mileage and a reasonable price. would certainly not feel like i was screwed if i was to buy it for that price
