Thinking about picking up an 8800 GT 512 mb...

Here's my situation: I'm getting ready to sell my 7950 GT, and I figured I would pay for the difference and get a new 8800 GT to replace it.

I was listening to some podcast the other day. In it, they said a bunch of new and affordable DX10 cards were going to be unveiled this week.

So my question is, is the 8800 GT still the best decision to make or should I wait for some better/cheaper cards?

Thanks for any input.

bluedeviltron2,

It might be a good idea to wait three or four weeks to make a purchasing decision, but remember that the price of the 8800GT will be affected much more by the release of a new card than the announcement of specs for a soon-to-be-released new card.

Well 8800GTs (512MB) can be found as low as 189$ with rebates and 229$ without rebates so that's a pretty good price but I guess it might be worth waiting for the 9600GT, who knows, they might actually make a good midrange card (like the old days) that is at least comparable to last gen high end, you know how the 6600GT was similar to the 9800 Pro and the the 7600GT was faster than a 6800GT so who knows, the 9600GT might be faster than the 8800GT though I doubt it considering the recent 8600 and HD 2600 fiascos.

In any case, the 9800 cards are supposed to debut at CeBIT, according to Fudzilla, if you can trust that, of course.

I was thinking more along the lines of midrange cards at a similar price range (possibly a 9800 GT). I just wasn't sure if that was a possibility or if anyone's heard anything about it.
