Thinking about picking up a PS3 tomorrow

So after denying myself a PS3 for so long, I think I'm going to pick one up at work tomorrow. I'll be getting the 40GB since I have no PS2 games and BC means jack to me.

I'm a hardcore 360 fan and am going out on a limb here. I mostly interested in PS3 cause of the Blu-Ray player. I have the HD-DVD add on for the 360, but I'd like to have best of both worlds.

Any suggestions on which game I pick up with the PS3 tomorrow? I already ahve COD4 for 360 and dont want to buy a duplicate game. I'm mostly into FPS shooters, but I've been known to venture out of that genre once in a while.

Right now, I'm thinking either UT3, Uncharted or Resistance.

What do you guys think?

Rainbow Six: Vegas is great, but since you already have a 360 you should get it for the 360.

I just got Uncharted, and it's great. Warhawk is good if you want to play online (it has no single player mode).

I'll just tell you what I'd be interested in if I got a PS3 tomorrow 🙂

Heavenly Sword (probably just rent since it has no multiplayer)
Resistance:FOM - fun multiplayer
Uncharted
Warhawk

If I was just picking up 1 game, it would definitely be warhawk.

Wow, we are both very similar. I decided to finally pick up a PS3 2 months ago because of the blu-ray and promise of games on the system, and I already have the hd-dvd player for my 360. With that said, I highly recommend Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, and Super Stardust HD on the PSN. I didn't care anything for the Resistance demo that I downloaded, I actually thought it was quite bad, but I haven't played the full game. I also purchased Warhawk, but I just can't get into it. I don't like the controls, and the whole thing just feels "loose".

Uncharted
Ratchet and Clank

I think those are the only exclusives I own. I didn't care much for Heavenly Sword, but lots of people did.

Ditto on the Resistance demo, I downloaded it last night. That thing was horrible. I'm not too terrible at FPS games on the console but I died like 20 times in a row on that stupid thing. The guns sucked. The controls were retarded and couldn't be changed. They didn't even take the time to put in a help file as best as I could tell. Certainly not something that left me wanting to rush out and buy the game. Had it not been one of the only games available at launch I doubt it would have sold a fraction of what it did.

I'm waiting to grab UT3 as a rental/demo and see how the gameplay works out. The guys at AVS say that it plays "fast". That could be good or bad.

Folklore was alright, I hated the entire run around and absorb glowing things portion and the lack of dialog interaction. I am enjoying FEAR, but the graphics kinda suck compared to the Drakes Fortune game, which I did not like (I am not big into third person shooters).

I would prefer Bioshock and Mass Effect come to the PS3, but that is not going to happen:|

go for the exclusives, resistence, or unreal for your FPS fix. unreal does look very nice...

drakes is 3rd person adventure, I think its more of a rental to be honest because of the no multiplayer

Netflix subscription, they carry almost every blu-ray disc released in the US.

Some suggestions to rent:
- (if you like animation) Pixar movies, Paprika
- The Fountain, Curse of the Golden Flower
- (if not seen already) The Prestige, Letters from Iwo Jima
- (dumb but look nice in 1080p) Next, Crank, Flyboys

Gamefly to rent Heavenly Sword, Folklore, Lair, possibly Uncharted.

Those are the only games I'd buy right now. Then I'd watch some Blu-Ray and chill out while waiting for Metal gear Solid.

Unreal is not exclusive. It's on PC and also comming to the 360 in May. There was some agreement between Sony and Epic to have a exclusivity timeframe. I guess in May it ends and the game is released for the 360.

My PS3 should be here tomorrow too. I almost got Resistance for $40 today at Wal-mart, but decided against it when I got there cause my credit card's about to blow and I didn't want to take the gamble. Ratchet and Clank will come bundled, so I'll just be picking up Uncharted in the very near future. After that, try Heavenly Sword and Resistance, see how I like them before buying.

Other games that I've heard should be worth looking at are Virtua Fighter (grew out of console fighting long ago), Lair (controls suck), Ninja Gaiden: Sigma, Folklore and the Darkness (coulda got for $20, but don't want to soil myself). There's definately stuff for the PS3, just gotta look for it😉.

The Blu-Ray is definately nice. Too bad I don't have an HDTV and my 24" monitor's DVI port (only one that has HDCP BS) is already used🙁.

Damn, I sent out for my free 5 blu-ray titles Thanksgiving week, and just got them back today. I didn't want to start a new post just for that, so I figured this was a good place to put it. Make sure you send out for it! I had read of others taking 3 months to get them back, but it took me a month with a couple big holidays in between.

For anyone that hasn't played the full version of Resistance, it's a GREAT game! I actually thought it was better than Halo 3 (although I'm not that big of a Halo 3 fan). I loved it!

Anyone planning to buy Motostorm might think about the 80GB PS3 since Motorstorm's packed in. If it's worth $40 to you then the memory card reader, 40 GB space and 80-90% PS2 back compat are only an extra $60 over the 40 GB.

I've spent more time playing PS2 games than PS3 this year thanks to the Xenosaga JPRG trilogy. If you like Japanese RPGs there are dozens that will never be on the PS3, 360 or PC. Plus the first 2 Katamari Damacy games, platformers, adventures, fighting games, etc.

A PS2 slim will probably drop to $99 in 2008, but you'll still need memory cards (+$30-40) -- the PS3 makes virtual memory cards on its hard drive instead.

Resistance was a surprisingly solid, fun game, especially online. I hadn't played such a fun game in a LONG time.

Also consider Uncharted, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, UT3, etc.

Thanks for the input guys.

I originally bought UT3 with my PS3, but promptly returned it and went to gamestop. I traded in four 360 games and actually made $1.66 after buying resistance, fight night round 3 and need for speed carbon.

I'll be looking at Uncharted and UT3 for my next games.

Resistance
Motorstorm
Uncharted
R&C
Heavenly Sword
Eye of Judgment (if you like strategy games)
Warhawk
UT3
