Thinking about moving to Phoenix, Arizona

Going to graduate soon and thinking about moving to Phoenix. Specifically the Tolleson area next to Phoenix. Anyone from around there? Wonder if there's a good job market there for engineers and just the area in general for living.

uh... dunno... pyonir lives around there. I'd probably stay at least 1 state away from him.
I think Adul lives there too. She's hot.

You'll get to wear flip flops or sandals everyday!

I will envy you 😛

I miss not being able to wear sandals everyday now that it's getting colder in Indiana 🙁

Theres a lot of opportunity around arizona....i think tucson is better myself as we have ratheon, ibm, and a couple other wierd ones like burr brown.
Phoenix however has motorola, honeywell, and i believe an intel plant if you looking for the big names.
In gerneal living in this state is great, living in phoenix however isn't too great imho. Its like a town that wants to be LA but is 120 degrees and always under construction. Outskirts of phoenix isn't as bad though, but all the good stuff is in town or requires driving a ways...You do get a really awesome college hangouts on Mill Ave where the drinks are cheap and the girls are too 😉

CA to AZ bad idea i say....we have too many of you already 😛

Why Tolleson? If you are planning to work in the East valley, or even Phoenix, that is going to be quite a drive in morning and afternoon traffic. The freeways here are always packed.

Tolleson because mom saw a house there and thinking about purchasing it as an investment. Me moving there being "If I like it there, and I can find a job there." But never thought about Arizona till she mentioned it so had no idea what Arizona was like.

If you are used to living in a big & busy area, it's not so bad.

If you've lived in smaller cities with limited traffic, a decent amount of personal space and privacy, and are used to having friendly and curteous people around you, you'll hate it.

The weather is AMAZING 7 months of the year. But the 3.5 million people around here make it hard to enjoy it 🙁

Buying a house for investment purposes -- yes! Living anywhere around Phoenix/Glendale/Peoria -- hmm, you may want to reconsider. If anything, you'll want to check it out for yourself first. Lived in burbs of Phoenix (near Tempe) twice in my life....finally left when the air got so bad (you'll see what I mean if you do check out Phoenix and the surrounding areas). Everyone I knew was taking allergy meds! If breathing in bad air and driving in traffic doesn't bother ya AND your sole purpose in life is finding an engineering job, you'll do well there. Drakkon mentioned all the larger employers...you can start checking out their websites.

Last time I was in Austin (TX) vacationing, it still had that "small town" feel, but saw employers like Dell, Motorola, IBM & AMD.

Okay, found a photocopy of Business 2.0 magazine's "Top 20 Boom Towns in America" (March 2004) -- only have the last 10 towns sorry!--but they are Sacramento, Phoenix, Minneapolis, Denver, NewHaven-Stamford, Baltimore, San Diego, Dallas, Charlotte & Philly.

Good luck!

phoenix is great. lived thier while i went to school. pretty cheap housing for such a big city. ok job market. and pretty clean city compared to LA and other large cities.

also the plus side is in the winter its in the 70s but in a 3 hr drive you can come up to where I live in the White Mountains and go sking.

Lived in Scottsdale until I was nine years old, then I moved away. Now I am going to college in Phoenix and been living here for almost 6 months... Its ok I suppose. Dont really like being right in central Phx, the crime rate is pretty high.
