The wife and I are kinda kicking the idea around of possible leaving Chicago for a few years only we have'nt exactly decided where we're moving to just yet. Preferably I'm thinking of moving somewhere where the cost of living is fairly inexpensive, the weather is good and there's lots of things to do. I guess that would rule out anything in California.

So hows the city/state you live in?

Drive about an hour and a half south of where you are now and you are in West Lafayette, IN. Also known as hell.

I live in Tallahassee, FL. I actually really like it down here, the weather is mild all year round, lots of forests and oak trees, nice schools and the Seminoles and you are only 45 minutes away from the beach. A nice 3br2ba home in a good neighborhood probably cost ~150k.

Cali was the first place you ruled out? It shoulda been NY. ;) I've been to Chicago once... Michigan Ave <--> Navy Pier area. It was pretty nice if I don't say so myself.

AZ here. Great weather. Lots of stuff to do...(Phoenix Open next weekend, WOO HOO!) cost of living is one of the lowest in the country. If you are interested in more detail, let me know. The summers are that bad....so don't come to me with that.

:)

don't come to Rochester.

Philadelphia is like a smaller NYC. very inexpensive to live here, and there's a range of housing, from ghetto to lush suburbs.

Wow is it that bad in Lafayette? I almost moved out there about 7 or 8 years ago, my company had a few open positions out there at the time.

The weather sucks and the only reason West Lafayette is a town is because Purdue is here. Without Purdue both Lafayette and West Lafayette would still be farms. There are absolutely no reasons for anyone to come here unless attending/working for Purdue.

I don't mind the heat, however my wife hates it. What part of Phoenix are you in?

There's also a large insurance company there in W. Lafayette that also employs several thousand people.

Some of my favorite bands are from Philly. I spent my honeymoon in the Poconos about 5 years ago, I did'nt see much of the city but I loved the all the trees and out in the Poconos.

Good point. I actually never realized it was there until last Sunday when I went out to eat with my girlfriend. I've driven by the building hundreds of times, but never noticed it. I guess it isn't all that bad down here, but I really like it down in Houston area more. I'm just here for school.

Do you remember a cellular phone company in that area called 360 communications? I used to work for their parent company (Sprint) a few years ago.

I have been trying to move away from Chicago for oooo so long....but something always stop me...hopefully by this time next year I will have relocated to Orlando or Ohio...

Mayor Daley is studily driving this city to crap....and Ryan in his 4 years hasn't helped the state at all...

What part of Chicago are you from north/south/west or one of the many, many, many suburbs?

thanks, I'm looking up real estate in that area. Trying to get a feel for the cost of housing

Pretty cheap out in AJ. If you are looking to being closer to Phx, check out Glendale, Peoria, Gilbert, Chandler and Mesa. Those are all in Maricopa County. The prices will be a little higher in these areas though.

I am from the southeast side almost near the lake....been here all my 30 years cept for 2 year when I was in da Air Force....

Since Daley took over I've seen this city get progressively worst and nobody seems to challenge him for mayor well at least no one worthy or powerful enough to bring em down. I mean come on .25 for every 5 minutes on a meter if u park downtown....thats a little ridiculous...
