Thinking about "jamming" a wal-mart

for those of you who don?t know what jamming is. it means to jam the system of a corporation by doing something to hurt its image or the business in some way.
it started here: Adbusters

i am thinking about doing my first jam to the new, big, bright walmat that has just been built by my house. I was thinking of something along the lines of spray painting on the ground in front of the doors that says "maybe one day we will be the sweat shop workers?", or something like that. what do you think? Am I a dick for doing this, or do you support me?

See my China thread about slave labor and Wal-Mart.

But I will admit that the reason Wal-Mart is so successful is because of its great executives. It's CEO shares a bed with his employees and other people who travel with him on business trips to save costs. That sends a great message to its employees and thus creates a lean machine sort of a way of conducting operations. Kind of like Dell.

I advise working with others so if you do get nicked you have a legal defense to back you up and someone to bail you out.
Don't go letting them make a example out of you they would love that.

Phew, I thought you were going to try and shove a Wal-Mart up yer crapper! Your definition of jamming sounds far less invasive ;)

I suggest you use chalk.

That way you can talk your way out of vandalism, maybe, and you will have the moral hgih ground. If you keep doing it and getting arrested, that will make Wal-Mart look like the bully. But if you are doing real vandalism, you'll just look like an asshole. The community will be on Wal-Mart's side, and that's not your goal.

I took a course on culture jamming last semester - interesting stuff, but I concluded that most were in it so that they could avoid their own personal problems - i.e. they were "sticking it to the man" because he was an attractive figurehead for all that they did not personally have. Don't be that guy.

Other than that, have fun. I don't support your destruction of private property, but it's your life.

I knew this gutterpunk who would eat nasty stuff from dumpsters and get the sh1ts. He would wander around and look for full yuppie resturaunts with big plate glass windows.
He would bend over real quick take careful aim and blast away. Pretty downright sick but his aim and errr "spread" was something to be marvelled at.
I never knew there was so much force in the diarrea. Noone ever caught him either as far as I know. People would be straight up dumbfounded and puking up their 100$ meals.

Not BS true story. He was a sick fvck and a obvious GG Allin fan.
It used to be kind of a fad "scumfvck punk" that died off when GG finally offed himself.
Funny but pretty gross (GG makes me sick myself)
MSN artist page about the king of scumfvck himeself.

Rarely performing for more than 10-20 minutes before clubs shut him down, Allin usually took the stage in a jockstrap and wound up nude; he beat himself bloody with broken bottles, torn cans, and microphones (when he wasn't trying to shove the latter up his own ass); he attacked and was attacked by his own audience; he urinated on the stage, on his band, on the audience; he frequently took laxatives before shows in order to defecate on the stage, after which he generally ate his own feces or threw them at the audience; and yet, somehow, he still found audience members willing to perform oral sex on him on-stage. Needless to say, he also ingested enormous amounts of booze and drugs, served several prison terms, and even promised to commit suicide on-stage on Halloween (he died of an overdose in 1993 before he could follow through). His songs -- such as they were -- were comically over-the-top hell-raisers about substance abuse, casual violence, and sexual conduct that was at best degrading and at worst criminal. Yet no matter how vile he was, Allin had his supporters, whether they belonged to the outermost fringes of society, admired his absolute freedom of expression, or were simply fascinated by the spectacle of a man venting all the ugliest, most primal impulses of the human id.

I saw him at a club I was working for called the milk bar in jacksonville, fl in about 91 and I couldn't have got out of there faster when he was literally chasing his own audiance from once side of the club to the other with turkeybasters up his ass and slinging sh1t at and beating the crap out of anyone he could chase down.
(The club was shut down forever becasue of him that night. -typical GG show and I was out a job DJing there becaue of it) :|

I have never condoned vandalism as a form of protest. It would put you in the same class as the PETA nuts that throw paint on furs.

Why not instead.....make small pieces of paper saying the same thing, or anything for that matter, and scatter them in and around Walmart surreptitiously?

there's some kind of surfboard wax you can scrape onto rough concrete that goes on more or less clear... then it picks up the dirt off people's shoes and slowly what was written becomes legible. I hear it's a pain in the ass to clean off, but I'm not too up on it.

A course on culture jamming?

What career is that going to prepare you for?

What career is that going to prepare you for?

Being a well rounded and intelligent human being who learns about people from various backgrounds, belief sets, and how they make up our world.

You could probably take something like that at any major campus. Probably not the exact class, but of similar nature.

And yes Rip, he is right. It is about learning from everything. Else my univeristy wouldn't offer classes such as "Hong Kong Action Cinema" as a choice ;)
