Texas Hold Em, bets are $2/$4

What do you guys think? I am a good player, but whenever I played back home it was everyone chipped in $20 and winner took all. This is a casino environment, which is a first for me.

If I do go, how much should I bring with me to be reasonable?

Table max is probably..... $100 or $200, so bring that. Dont even bother sitting down without the table max. Is it limit or NL?

You will probably be a bit nervous and make a few mistakes. The advanced players will giggle in their heads, but it'll be a learning experience.

Just make sure that you bet heavy when you have your hand. Dont wait for others to catch theirs.

2/4 limited hold em? it is like bingo, everyone will bet and call to see the flop, turn, river, there is no skill to it, and its all luck.

If thats the table max. If $200 is the max, then you are just setting yourself up for failure. Imagine playing at a table where everyone has $200 or more (from sitting there and winning over time) and then you come in with half the amount. You'll get pushed around.

I sat down in Vegas with $300 (table max) and got pushed around by a few guys that had been on for a while. I learned from my mistake, and did much much better sitting at the right tables. I'll do better next time.

Just look at money lost as entertainment cost. If you win, great. The people who get in gambling trouble are those that are spending more money then they would on entertainment.

Trust me, the money that I lost in Vegas was about 20% of the total cost of the trip.

depends. if the table max is $100, then sure. more than likely for a $100 max it'll be 1/2 nl and you'll have a bunch of calling stations. but since its your first time at the casino this might not be a half bad route. you'll get accustomed to the flow of the game and get the jitters out of the way.

Yes, but sitting down with $200 and being used to friendly games with $20 is a whole new world.

My first time playing no limit, i was like wow, i just fucking called a $60 bet. Looking back on it, it was nothing.

Our "friendly" games are usually $50 and people get mad when I bet $20.

I'm not really comfortable throwing away $200 - if I'm just going to get bullied around. Perhaps I should sit out... if I go, I'm going within the next 30 minutes. Time to argue with myself...

Problem is my fiancee is in florida with her family, and I just moved to Minneapolis, it's a place called Canterbury park, seems kind of exciting, but I'm not poor, nor rich, and $200 whilst in the midst of buying furniture, etc, etc may be kind of "dumb"

..then again...it's not going to kill me either :)

ARGGH!!

Just go, its not throwing $200 away. Buying 200 lottery tickets would be throwing away $200.

There is no bullying in cash game, there is no fear of busting out as in a tournament. The blinds are relatively small to the buy in, you just play your standard poker.

Just do it. Odds are you won't lose it all, you should be able to tell if you're legitimately out of your league or just nervous/catching bad cards.

2/4 limit, $100 will be fine. If you're playing no-limit, then you want to come in with the table max.

Limit, you can't really get pushed around unless you're really low stacked. Just play tight/aggressive and you'll be fine. Limit is all about playing with the best odds. When you sit down, just sit tight unless you have a monster hand and just watch your opponents. When the cards are dealt, make sure to watch their expressions as they look at their cards instead of looking at your cards. So many people give away their cards with their expressions. Good Luck!
