Been using Plex for a good while now. For the life of me, I don't know what paying for the lifetime access gets you. (The Android app is paid.)

Anyone care to shed some light?

https://www.plex.tv/features/plex-pass/

Offline caching, cloud storage, get new features first, some music stuff, parental controls, access to some TV channels (I guess that's US only?)...

Standard streaming to mobile devices is not paid through subscription (just needs the plex mobile app and server setup on your PC).

The Plex app from the Play Store requires a sub (Edit: or purchase) to stream on the local network. If it's preloaded on a device (Such as the nVidia Shield) it works without the sub.

You don't need to sub. This one-time activation costs like $4? I honestly don't know what are the limits without it... Works flawlessly for me.
