I'm thinking of buying this monitor. I will use it for gaming, watching DVDs/TV, internet surfing, college assignments, etc..

I live in Montreal, Canada, and on the dell.ca website this monitor sells for 950$ CAD plus tax and shipping. Is it possible to get any student discounts or coupons for this monitor? If yes, where can I get them from? This is my first Dell purchase and I have no idea where to find promortions for dell stuff.

Also, I've heard about banding issues with this monitor, is this gonna affect gaming in windowed mode, or what exactly? And does Dell have zero dead pixel policy?
Thanks

p.s: am sorry if this was posted in the wrong forum

Not sure if there is a Costco in Montreal but:

Cotco

You can get a 2407FPW with a wireless mouse/KB and then try to sell them on eBay (assuming they are worth $100, not sure).

I've had the 2407FPW for several weeks now, and I absolutely love it. Other than the Dell.com website, I'm not too sure of any other place to check for current promotions. I do know that Dell has a Student Zone, but I think it only deals with US institutions

As for the banding, I have heard of it - but can't really tell if it shows up on the monitor I have. Pictures show it really only apparent with test patterns - in regular use (gaming, work, finances, surfing, etc.), can't tell a thing. Maybe they've fixed it?

They sell here in the states for around $700, which I think is a great price. The amount of inputs it has is outstanding. I've only used it for PC and XBOX 360 use, so I can't comment on movies and such.

I too am thinking of getting it and as far as I can tell unless u get ure p@nties in a twist abt color correction in gradients you should be fine. Its the best bang for your buck out there right now. the only thing in sight that looks like it could be decent is the new BenQ which is supposed to launch 1st week september. but its priced at 950 USD. so u might want to wait or buy the dell for a lot cheaper. I myself have decided on the dell because the only additional thing that the BenQ has is HDMI which is useful for movies and such. some people are saying that there is ghosting but so far very few complain abt it and its not present on the revision A02. you can maybe try looking for coupons on E-bay but be warned they might not work but if the seller has good reviews then it should be fine. but other than that get it... i was agonizing for weeks over the samsung 244T and this and contemplating wether to wait for the BenQ or not. but i figured once the BenQ comes out itll haveto go through a cpl of revisions before its as good as it can get and there might be more problems on it that the dell, on the other hand ther might be nothing wrong with it at all. soo IMO go for the dell

You should check out the dell forums and read other ppl's comments there before deciding. Thats what I did before getting my 2007wfp. :)

I just noticed that there's a 2407FPW and a 2407WFP, does anyone know the difference between the two?
Links (US and Canadian stores):
FPW
WFP

And if I buy the monitor from a place like this, does it come with full Dell warranty or will I have to contact that stores if I get issues with the monitor?

P4D,

Don't think there's a difference - people seem to use both interchangeably.

To get the Dell warranty (which is pretty good, IMO), you need to have purchased it from Dell in some way or fashion (i.e., have the Service Tag Code), so I don't think getting it from a third party vendor would apply (unless they can provide a valid Dell STC - who knows? You can always ask). The warranty does transfer - I had investigated this when I was perusing eBay for a 2405FPW. If you have a valid STC, you just go on the Dell website, provide proof of purchase (eBay invoice, for instance), and the remainder of the warranty rolls over to you.

I figured the 2407WFP is newer, and I liked the idea of going thru Dell for a big ticket item for $100 more that I just purchased it thru their website.

I have the HP L2335 23" Widescreen and I love it. An extra hundred bucks over the Dell, but worth every penny imo.

The 2407 uses the M-PVA panel which has different characteristics than the AS-IPS panel used in the L2335. After visiting the Widescreengamingforums.com site, I found lots of good info, and decided the extra cash was worth it.

Good luck.

The 2407 is a great monitor. There is a slight banding issue, but you can only really see it on certain gradients (vertical). I never notice it in games or movies, so its not a problem for me.
I will admit it, at first I was obsessed with the banding issue, but i got used to it, and now i barely even notice it at all.

I do a lot of photoshop work and illustrator work as well, and i can see the banding, but when you consider the price, it is well worth it. The 6in1 card reader is an extra little bonus. I use my digi camera a lot for work, so its convenient.

The 2407 is well worth the price. Its styish (i love the stand and bezel), crisp, clear, and its huge (went from a 18.1 lcd and was blown away). Besides, if you buy it from dell and decide not to keep it, dell has a pretty good 30-day satisfaction guarantee (at least in the states). I say go for it.

PS: I forgot to mention, there is a problem with the component input. Apparently a 1080i signal will not work. I havn't researched this a whole lot because i dont use the input, but it may be worth checking out if you plan on plugging in an xbox 360. Just check out the Dell monitor forums.

Killr, what type of games do you play?

I just ordered this monitor and should be getting it tomorrow. I play pretty much just fps and RTS on the PC (with the occasional MMORPG and Oblivion of course). I've heard differing opinions on the input lag and am wondering how much of an issue that actually is for this monitor.

Is there anyone out there who plays lots of FPS games on this monitor? I'm not necessarily a super-hardcore FPSer, but I usually like to play the sniping game in the games I do play.

I'm not necessarily worried about the vertical banding issue, but is it REALLY as horrible as many would have us believe? I am not going to be doing any design work (I have a mac for that! LOL!) but will be playing lots of games, watching lots of movies, and....that's about it, lol.
