Thinking about getting one of these dogs.

My folks are looking for a new great dane puppy. I want to get a great dane through the dane rescue but I don't have a yard.

unless you're going to put it in shows and hope to make money off it, why the hell would you spend 1500 on a damn dog?

some people have waaaay too much money. send that 1500 to me, i'll puty it to good use.

Yeah you could always send that my way too. I have better uses for it... like paying for college or donating it to charity.

I got an Alaskan Malamute

for like $500 a few years ago. Puppy.

Be warned... shedding a lot

I had an Alaskan Malamute during my tennage years. It was the BEST dog I ever had. She would play fetch and was such a sweet dog. She was really good with kids also.

just another note on people saying it's crazy spending the $$ on dogs...
I've been lookin in to golden retrievers (not really, just kind of a dream as of now- living in a one bedroom apt- dont think a retriever would like that =)
but anyways...if you get them from breeders they screen for the known health "defects" in the dogs so you might end up spending more than the cost down the road at the vet when the dog gets sick and he's part of your family. I'd pay a lot up front if I knew it had a better chance of living a longer, healthier life.

But thats just me. My family ended up getting a dog (cocker spaniel) from a breeder and she is old as dirt and still ticking. I think shes over 15 now- and they are VERY prone to health problems. Of course it very well could have just been good luck, but who knows.

 I generally find that those dogs tend to have more interesting personalities than the dogs you find at breeders too.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi FTW

Indeed, and substantially less expensive.

You realize breed cost are supply and demand?

If you want to get the coolest dog out there, fine. spend your money as you see fit but stop asking other people's opinions.

OH! Come on! It's a trophy dog, of course. Conspicuous consumption. Bragging Rights. Vanity. My dog is better than your dog, etc.

Looks like a sweet dog
I personally like huskys more than that dong and beagles / german shephs almost as much
Buy it if you like it more than a husky

Strange, there's a 4 year old Malamute Husky in the local news paper that someone's giving away for free near where I live. I'm considering getting the dog, but I'm hesitant to take on an older dog of uncertain temperment. Are malamutes usually gentle dogs?

$1500 on a damn dog? You're crazy. If you want a miniature husky, buy a husky and put it in a body cast. The restraints will keep it from growing too big. I just saved you $1000, I accept paypal.

Malamutes really need proper socialization when they're young or they can be pretty aggressive as older dogs. They're GREAT when well trained, but a real handful if not raised properly.

For those of you who can't imagine spending the $ on a dog, please post your computer specs.

Buying expensive computer parts doesn't leave living things to die, simply for cosmetic reasons -- and there is a quantifiable difference. Your metaphor is completely nonsensical. All you really said is "it makes sense to spend money on a dog because people sometimes spend money on other things"
