Mike's interpretation of your logic:

Wow; if I cut off my left foot, both testicles and poked an eye out, I could get one of those neat, reserved Handicapped Parking Spots!!!

OR

I hate my car...it's not spiffy enough. Gee; there's a brick wall! If I get up to about 60mph or so, and hit it head on, it'll get totalled and I'll get a new car!

Did I make my point...or are you still just confused b/c the pvssy is good and you're being an idiot?

You've got a lot to learn kid. Look up the policies of financial aid as it pertains to dependency. It has to do with taxes, income and claimable dependents and households. Very simple, talk to your accountant.

That is the context of this discussion, and you apparently don't understand that.

According to all financial and legal records, I have lived on my own since I was 17. My parents stopped claiming me on their insurance when I turned 18.

Yet financial aid offices still tell me that I must include my parents income when I'm filing for financial aid... some say until I'm 21, some say until I'm 25. I still haven't figured out who is actually correct. <shrug> Yet another thing on the laundry list of reasons why I'll probably never go to college. :D

I love all the condescending, self-righteous comments.

People have married for worse reasons.

Let the kid do what he wants.

You do have a point. But who is to say what reason is better than another? IOW, you're saying "Let him choose the own time and place of his execution" which is a fair statement.

Many "reasons" to get married:

I knocked her up (or the more PC version "She is carrying my child")
If I get married, I can get out of the dorms
Etc

Love is real, but highly overrated.

Love today
=
Comfort Zone next week
=
Well I have someone at least, next year
=
What the hell did I do this for? Five years from now.

Love is gambling, period. Even if for once you actually win your lousy five bucks back, that doesn't make up for the $5M (exaggerated for effect) you've spent GETTING to this point.

I like being in love. Even after all these years, the butterflies are still wonderful. But I've grown up and realized that it's not permanent. Nobody grows old together and dies anymore...it usually winds up with one wanting to kill the other one...or at least an ugly breakup.

Live for the moment. Enjoy that pretty girl, respect her, buy her flowers, cook her dinner, enjoy her company; just realize that your mindset today will be disrupted next week, next month, next year...the love buzz is fleeting and carries much worse hangover penalities than any manmade intoxicant.

Any problems with this? I'm 17, found a girl that's willing to do it...as far as I know, if I get married, then I'm not a dependant under my parents anymore.

I'm going to talk to my lawyer soon about it, and if I go through with it I'll get a prenup...but any other things to worry about? Do you guys think it's unethical?

You're 17 and can afford a lawyer but can't pay for college?

My parents make around 50k a year after taxes, and my sister is already in college, but that's not the point. They're going to help a little bit for the first year and that's it. I have a lawyer because she's a family friend.

This might not even be necessary as I got a 30 on my ACT, and I'll probably get some decent money for that, but I was just wondering what you guys thought about the idea.

To be honest I'm suprised more kids don't do it..I guess I'd feel a bit bad doing it, as it's almost as bad as people that sign up for welfare that just don't want to work, but atleast I'll be putting the money towards something productive..*shrug*
Definitely, we need more people taking advantage of the weakening system.

Well, to be quite honest, I think it's pretty unfair that my income is based off of my parents even though they wont be helping out after the first year (and even then it'll just be for food and the like). I don't know why it's set up like this...I'll be 18, that should count as being on your own.

and what skills do you have that will earn you enough money to pay for college on a timely basis? loans exist for a reason

Oh so now you're mr. independent. does anyone else see the Irony in this?

Get a freakin Job, i'm 19 in college as well and did not get married to pay for it.

I have a job, how do you think I pay for everything?

I know the value of work. I just think that this is what's actually FAIR for me. My parents wont be sending me money up the wazz for college, like a good portion of kids get. This will actually set my income to where it should be, being what I make.

FAIR , lots of kids have to help with the household and go to college; I hope life is fair with you, because you are an idiot
