My parents are thinking about getting a used diesel Ford F350 and I though I would asks your opinions about it. It is $14,500.
Here are the specs:
1995 model
93,000 miles
turbo v8 diesel
xlt trim package
2 diesel tanks for total of 37(?) gallons
automatic not standard
nice condition

It needs new tires though. Anyone who has the truck please post your comments about it.

Thanks for reminding me that it is a 4 door none dueally. It is also set up to pull 5th wheels with.

The 7.3 DI is generally a pretty solid engine. BUT..........The engine came out in late '94, became the only option in 95. Since that was the first year, as par for the course for Ford, there were plenty of bugs.
The main ones I can remember:
1. Injector O-rings....were bad about melting, causing the engine to run badly. Ford has updated these now. I would think most 95's have already had that problem and been updated, but you never know.
2. Gas pedal....this engine doesn't have a cable from the pedal to the engine...just a sensor on the pedal. The sensors tended to fail causing the engine to idle but wouldn't "take the gas"
3. Transmission...the E4OD is now, finally, relatively reliable. We replaced/rebuilt many in the past though.
4. Glow plug modules....early DI's were very prone to burning up the glow plug modules causing a no-start condition in cool, not cold weather. Again, this part has been updated.

These are generally very reliable engines. Just be careful to keep the oil full...if it gets a couple of quarts low (happens frequently, it holds 14 quarts), it will run badly. The injectors use oil pressure to force the fuel through, and if it is low, will tend to hesitate/stall around corners.
Good luck.
PS: If you want to know if there are any outstanding recalls on the truck, email me the VIN# and I will run it through Ford's computer for you.

Tony, does your family have a use for a truck like that? also 4x2 or 4x4?
