Thinking about getting a kinect, interested in Dance Central

I haven't been paying much attention to consoles, but I have a 360 and I saw that there are refurb kinect units on newegg for like $90 which is a little more palatable than the $140-150 for new. I'm mostly interested in Dance Central which looks pretty fun and my wife would play it with me most likely. I gather 2 player dancing isn't really in it but the sequel is coming out and does and it features an import like with the Rock Band games.

Anyone have any opinions on this? Are there other great games for the kinect that I should check out. Some of the exercise games might interest my wife and perhaps myself.

My wife uses the Kinect for Biggest Loser Ultimate Workout 3 or 4 times a week. I personally have not used it that much, except for some party games like Dance Central and Kinect Adventures which are fun. I tried the demo of Gunstringer last week, and it seems like it would be fun, but I have not bought the game yet.

Make sure the room you are putting it in is big enough.

If it is too small you may only be able to have one person play at a time.

The dance game is fun if you have a big group. When I bought mine we had some friends over and held a contest to see who could keep winning the longest. Turned out to be a very fun day.

1) Dance Central is awesome.
2) Fruit Ninja is also awesome, although $9.99 is pretty steep for a game you probably already bought on your phone.
3) Kinect Sports is also fairly fun.
4) YouShape Fitness Evolved is VERY VERY tiring if you're looking for a workout game. I consider myself to be in pretty damn good shape and it had me dying.

The 2-player mode just alternates, but it's a change from switching on whole songs. I think it distinguishes between logged-in players, if you care about separate scores and progress. I also have DanceMasters, which is more like posing in time to music than dancing. As a DDR and Para para fan, I like it fine.

The demo is pretty good. I plan to buy it when there's a sale.

As for the importing in Dance Central 2, it will cost you $5 (400 points) to do it, but most places will somehow reimburse you for the cost. Amazon is giving you 400 points, and I think others are giving codes out.

Dance Central is good fun but I cannot stress enough how important it is to make sure you have adequate room for the camera/sensor.

I read you need 8 feet from the sensor. I think my living room is 14x15? If I move the coffee table there seems to be enough room, I never really thought I'd get away with doing it in front of the coffee table...plus I'd probably smash my feet on it. Honestly, we don't really use the coffee table so I could probably convince the wife to move it to the other room if we actually used this a lot. The other room a weird 11x21 layout. If I could put the sensor on the wall instead of in front of the TV I'd gain close to 2'.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger. I figure if I don't like it I'll just sell it.

So this finally showed up in the mail a couple days ago. The refurb kinetic actually came with Kinetic Adventures which wasn't listed on the box so that was a nice surprise. Dance Central I bought used but that showed up shrink wrapped so that was nice too.

Anyway, I'm going to have to turn off the picture recap of the freestyle section because every time it shows them its a jarring reminder that I'm not a smooth dancer but am still in fact a dorky white guy flailing about in his pajamas. Its a real immersion breaker so I'm not sure why its on by default.

The dance move tracking seems pretty good except for some reason when I'm doing an arm swing horizontally/across my chest it never seems to catch it. I'm sure I suck at dancing but it never seems to get it. My wife has the same problem. I don't really get it.

You should be doing it in the nude, it's even more of an immersion breaker D:

I've noticed that horizontal movement issue too. It shows up like crazy on Child of Eden (another fantastic game that didn't get mentioned in this thread that I saw).

Fruit Ninja comes free with Gunstringer. Both games are great so for the price this is a STEAL! I snagged a copy off ebay with the DLC code for like $22.

Dance Central we got got the 12 year old Just Dance freak in the house but we quickly decided the music was mostly too mature for her so she only gets to play it supervised and her mom and I have actually had a lot of fun with it on our own. I am the worst dancer on earth and I actually feel like playing this will make me a better dancer in the long run.

There are a lot of absolute crap games out there too. My Kinect came with a copy of Game Party...only caused fights and it went straight to Goozex. Just read the reviews first I guess.

Dance Central 2 came out today if you're interested in more songs. A lot of places were doing pre-order bonuses where they would pay the import fee ($5, similar to Rock Band). Amazon was also providing a $10 video game credit.

I couldn't resist. :(

I'll probably ask for DC2 as a birthday gift. I've actually had a lot of fun with this and it gets the heart rate up, some songs more than others. Plus I've gotten out of shape in the last year. Its funny but my ass was pretty sore from playing this!

I had to download Snow - Informer for the nostalgic lulz. I remember everyone, including myself, had that stupid tape (yes tape!) when I was in 6th or 7th grade.

There's a sale on DC DLC songs through November 5, for the Kinect anniversary and DC2 launch. I don't see a thread in Hot Deals, and I'm not sure if it's kosher to link SD or CAG.

I have a 5yr old so the Kinect is completely worth it.

She loves Kinectimals (even I admit it's a pretty fun game), and this other game where she can play with a pet using augmented reality by seeing the living room on the screen, and interacting with the imposed pet. Pretty neat overall.

Plus they have the Disneyland game coming, and since that's her favorite thing on this planet we'll be getting it for her.

As for is it worth it for adults? Sure. Adventures is fun, and it has a lot of potential. I just don't use it often, but it's not because of a lack of games (I've got a friend who loves Dance Central) it's just I normally feel like vegging out when playing games and not move...lol.

Bumping this...

I've got one sitting at the house in the box. Got the $99 holiday bundle, plus bought a download code for Child of Eden for $10.

Having second thoughts, thinking about sending it back to Amazon. I read that Kinect Adventures isn't fun for long, Gunstringer isn't multiplayer friendly, and so far it looks like Kinect Star Wars (huge Star Wars fan) is going to be a minigame collection.

My girlfriend might like Dance Central (she loves Just Dance on the Wii). Is $110 better spent elsewhere though?

Dance Central, Kinect Sports and Kinect Adventures alone are worth owning the Kinect for.
