I purchased a Bowflex back in 2000 and used up to last year, at which time I joined a gym and went back to free weights. The Bowflex was nice and convenient, but I had pretty much maxed out all the rods and really didn't feel like I was getting anywhere. All it took was one workout with free weights and it felt like I hadn't lifted weights in years.

It's been sitting unused for a year now.

I'd say it's great for beginners, extremely obese people looking to lose weight, and older people. Otherwise, if you've an experienced lifter, then I wouldn't recommend a Bowflex.

Bowflex won't make you increase mass at all. All it might help is tone, if at all. I don't like all those high-tech machines they have nowadays - I prefer free weights to anything else.
