Old Rav4 ATOT thread here.

C/N: We are looking to buy a completely redesigned 2006 Rav4, it's not so "girly" anymore.

We have a '98 contour which we would like to replace before summer rolls around because the A/C stopped working a few months ago, and it would cost more to fix it than the car is worth. We live in the Chicago burbs so we have a good 4 or 5 months to look for a new car before the oppressive heat starts and the countour will be unbearable to drive.

We currently have a Saab 92x Aero(a WRX in disguise) and are thinking about giving it a 2006 Rav4 for a companion. We have looked at the 2005 Rav4's and we liked them except the back seats are a little cramped and various other little things. I have been researching the 06 Rav4's and they have basically been completely redesigned. They exterior and interior has changed, they are bigger, have a V6(269HP) engine option and a ton of interior options as well. Basically they changed what we didn't like about the 05's.

We have done the comparisons and have basically decided between the Rav4 and the CRVs. The liberty is a total gas hog with a weak V6, I don't like the Escape(the MIL has one, I'm not a big fan) and I don't like the others(kia, hyundia...). I like the 05 CRV over the 05 RAV4, but I like 06 RAV4 over the 06 CRV(the CRV is not changing much in 06).

Since we live were it snows for half the year I would definitely want to get one with a 4WD(rav4 has on-demand 4wd in 06) and with the limited package. They are just being shipped over seas now so I haven't actually been in or driven one, but the pics all look good

I have put some specs at the bottom of this post.

What do you guys think of the car?

Search for NFS4's post regarding same subject.

Also if you like your 9-2 also consider the B9 tribeca made by the same company. Its more luxurious than the standard outback/forester models.

****Remember. next year is the big year for small SUVS. the Mazda 6 based ones are coming out, including the mazda cx7, ford edge, aviator, etc. Also a bit more upscale models for 2007 are the volvo XC50, new LR freelander and a rumored Jag SUV. Also, the RDX by Acura should be a good choice as well.

I thought they were getting rid of the Freelander.
