the price for the 5750 is looking pretty good.

i currently have an old setup... amd 3800x2, 2gb ddr400, 7800gt

i was gonna jump on the newegg deal for 100 after rebate on the 5750.

i play games at 1680x1050. i dont need highest settings i just want to be able to play newer games smoothly at medium-high settings.

would this be a worthwhile upgrade or should i wait until i can build a completely new system?

You cpu is a little slow for some newer games but it should be worlds ahead of your 7800gt. I say go for it.

You can also get 9600GT performance with the DDR5 GT240. Those have been in the $50-$60 AR/abing range quite often. Also a viable contender for a box that old.

im probably gonna build a new system by the end of the year. i figured the 5750 would be an easy upgrade since my current graphics card is having problems.

so im willing to spend around 100 rather than settle for a slightly cheaper card.
sounds like a good boost though. i will most likely do it thanks for help guys.

Then instead of buying a card you'll throw away by the end of the year why not get something you can use for a year or two before upgrading? Spending $100 on a throwaway is $100 more you could use for a real GPU.

Just hang out and keep suffering with what you got.

If you're going to use the card in a new system, by all means go for the 5750. I don't necessarily agree with v8envy that it's a throwaway card. Totally depends what type of machine you intend to build and what you intend to play on it. You'd be getting 4850-class speed, which is still pretty good for most games, and will be adequate for a year or two. The next step up would be a 5770. The cheapest is currently $145AR: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814131327.

That will give you about 15-20% more performance, for 45% higher cost. Up to you whether it's worth it. The MSI 5750 is such a good price right now that it makes the jump seem less reasonable.

You can also get this 4870 for ~$150 with shipping: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121376. Slightly faster than 5770 but more power-hungry and not DX11. Again, not that compelling when you can get a 5750 for $100.

that cpu does not even meet the recommended requirements for many newer games so dont expect to always have smooth framerates just because you are finally getting a modern gpu. with that 3800 X2 a 5750/5770 will not provide any where the numbers you see from reviews so dont be surprised with sluggish performance especially in more cpu intensive games. I would probably get a 5670 but that 5750 for just 100 bucks is a great deal for only 20-25 bucks more.

Get it, you can use it later or even go xfire and get just under 5850 performance for another $100.

Get the 5750, it's a good deal. It is a vast improvement over your current card, and while you might not realize the full benefit immediately as toyota states, it'll serve you well in your new build later on.
