Thinking about gettin an Ibook

with the special apple is running and student discounts I can get a 12 inch ibook and 20 gig ipod for 1090 after rebate. I already have a desktop that I'm taking back to college with me but, last year, I found myself wanting a laptop at certain points during the year.


Do you guys think ill be wasting my money getting a mac/

Good deal... Just get Apple Care, iBooks are nice but some revisions have had reliability issues.

I have a 15" powerbook and love it to death. I've said it a million times and i'll say it again... apple notebooks are > all. Get the powerbook if you can, but my friend's iBook is very nice too.. he's very happy with it. You couldn't go wrong with either.

i would go for a powerbook, but they are expensive! Plus, this wont be my primary comp.

On another note... has anyone financed through apple before? I have a credit card that I pay off regularly and my parents both have very good credit. Would it be worth it to finance the purchase?

My friend got 12" Powerbook around 2 weeks ago using the apple student loan. Why not? The loan seems like a pretty good deal to me.

12" iBooks are great machines... that being said 12" Powerbooks are great machines too! It's a tough decision. I started wanting a 12" iBook for school and I just recieved my 15" Powerbook about 2 weeks ago. It's truly an awesome machine. I'm even debating weather or not I even want to bring my PC desktop back to school with me. This machine does everything that I can do on my PC... I love it...

I would say get the iBook with cram and jam and then buy an extra stick of atleast 512mb of ram... 1gb would be even better. You'll have a relatively cheep notebook that has quite a bit of power. It won't be a steller gaming machine, but it will do pretty much anything you ask it to...

I think you should go for a 12" powerbook. I just bought a notebook (although i didnt get an apple) but while i was doing all my research i thought about getting the iBook. but then, i realized that for about the same price as a 14" iBook you can get a 12" powerbook. Plus, 12" powerbooks have a video card in them that lets you run a dual display mode. Its very nice and may be able to adequately replace your desktop. iBooks are great too, you cant go wrong...but consider the 12" powerbook....

Actually the graphics chip in the current iBooks will let you run dual display also. From the factory the iBooks can only do monitor "mirroring" while the PBs can do monitor "spanning". However, there is a working spanning hack for your iBook if you decide that you want to use it. I will say that if I had the choice I would save some extra beans and get the base level 12" Powerbook. However, the iBook will get better batterly life thanks to lower power usage and a better/larger battery. The PB is lighter and smaller in size and has a nicer screan (though at the same resolution).
