and is direct tv any good? any good deals where i can get myself setup? thanks guys.

Ok, first of all, you will need written landlord permission before your installer can do anything. Most places should be running a 3 free promotion, 3 receivers for free, installed (one year programming commitment). If you really want decent service, find an actual installer in your area and buy directly from him, not from directv, they get more of a kickback off of you and should be a little bit more willing to work with you.

If you have any ?s, PM me,

Sorry didn't see the last ?, I would belive the dish would need to face south east (Houston, TX area) (I'm in NY so ours face SW), you are further south than us so yours also should be at a higher elevation.

Also, your installer will figure out if you have sight or not so just order it and he will check everything out.

We have DirecTv at work. I dunno if our service just sucks, but this thing is slooooooooooooooooooooooow.

I mean, painfully slow.

We have DirecTV and love it. I don't understand the comment about it being slow.....how can a TV picture be slow. If you're getting a lot of pixelation, you ought to check the satellite signal strength and change sats your dish is using for receiving. Other than that, the service is excellent, the pics are great, and the cost is more than competitive with trad. cable. Of course, due to trad. cable influence, you may not be able to receive local stations on DirecTV, although some areas do have that service, but outside that, it's excellent.

Slow like, when you change channels, bring up a menu, go to the guide, etc.

It is Speedy Gonzales compared to a digital cable receiver.

Maybe our DirecTV thing is messed up. Ours is slooooow. It also goes out when it rains. The way things are at work though, it wouldn't suprise me if we had a bad DTV system.

I would check your signal strength, your dish may be slightly out of alignment. When you change the channel on any dish system there will be a small lag (about 1 second) before the picture is up but menus should be instant. Only heavy rain or snow blocks my reception so I'm guessing it's your alignment out by only a few millimeters.

I highly recommend DTV. Best channel selection! I have heard many horror stories about Dish Network. And get written permission from your landlord. My tenant put one up without telling me, I scolded him like a child, the dish is mine now since it is attached to the building.

I have been a customer since '99 and have been nothing but happy.

I haven't missed a Michigan football or Red Wings hockey game since I moved to Atlanta. Plus TiVo rules and you can get it for $99 with DirecTv now.

Go Dish.

J/K. ;) It just seems like everytime there's a Dish Network thread somebody comes in and pimps DirecTV without even checking on the specfics. Now that DirecTV has some better deals on Tivo/DVR hardware and the Dish is charging a monthly fee for their DVR service the cost differential (which could've been non-existant already depending upon your programming) is nearly gone now. I'd be happy with either one so long as I have a DVR.

Some of the older entry level boxes were very slow at channel changes and menu display. But that has, for the most part, been overcome in the newer boxes.

Don't forget the fact that you need a receiver for each TV you have, and will be paying an extra $5/month for each extra as well.

Just as you would for digital cable boxes.
