Atfter browsing around here, reading reviews and such, i've made a tenative decision to buy the Ati Radeon 9600 pro 128mb(by sapphire). I've seen it for about $120 or so. I'm currently using a 1st gen Rage 128, so i'm going to triple my preformance ;) I'm using a Soyo Dragon+ mobo, and i know a lot of newer cards require 1.5v from the mobo.........will this work for me.....please advise thanks

AFAIK, the 9600 doesn't need the extra power plug like the 9700 and 9800 do.

And you will way more than triple your current performance!

yup, no external power connection necessary. however, $120 sounds a bit too low for a 9600 pro make sure it isnt the EZ version or anything

Stay away from the cards with anything other than Pro after the name. SE, EZ, or anything else mean the card is basically crippled. Also, the 256MB version is something to avoid.

Well, i just got UBER lucky and they had the real deal ATi 9600 pro 128mb refurbs available today for about $128......got one of those instead of the sapphire card. i'll see if it works, and if not i've got it for 15 days. One issue though, this card WILL run under '98 right? It mentioned 2k and xp, but i didn't hear anything about 98 i'm looking for the manual online right now. I'm also doubling my ram today, so from 256 to 512 :D Man a quick $150 and i'm doubling ram and quadrupling my GFX card preformance, before i install either i'm going to run 3dmark and see what i get
